Yes but does your dad mind the extra drive?
  • I agree with the guy who said look at the Carrara banshee X, my brother had one and it was great for the money and could handle fairly heafty drops. otherwise second hand is the obvious route as ur not going to get a new bike for tht price unless ur going for a 'hardcore' hardtail. I know someone hu's got a patriot who may be willing to sell as he doesn't ride much anymore.

Why ask for advice and then dismiss without regard the advice you asked for...

Think of it in cars - You've got say £18k burning a hole in your pocket (I should be so lucky..) you want a sports car do you:

A: Buy a nice Honda Civic type R (or similar - fast, flash etc)

    or

B: A second hand 10 year old TVR cerbera - yep may have cost 45k new and goes like the wind but it spends most of its time in the garage broken and eating money for new parts that it probably needed when you got it.

If you buy this patriot, it will be old, likely hammered, with parts that may well need replacing as soon as or soon after you get the bike. It may look nice on ebays pictures, but it may need a good service. It could cost you more money than you think.

A new bike will have a warrenty, will normally get a first free service, will probably out perform the old patriot and ultimately riding good is what makes you look good on a bike, not just the paint job and decals.

    Sorry - rant over..

If you could stretch another £100.00 then the GT Aggressor XCR is well worth a look, Deore XT Groupset, i picked one up at the beginning of this year after having a Marin Palisades Trail for the last 14 years and i am really pleased with the GT, the bike is solid, i'm 15.5 stone and it feels like i'm sitting on top of a horse when riding down trails, it has Deore XT Groupset, the gears are fast and accurate and snap in every time, unlike the Trek 1.5 Road Bike i have... and its just a thrill to ride.
