I played tennis for the first time yesterday. Apparently (mrs tardington) says I am quite good!
nothing like being patronised0 -
Currently off games but I like the mindlessness of swimming, the craziness of squash and I have played a fair bit of badminton in my time.
I do not get tennis at all - the ball hurts when it hits you. The racquet is clearly designed for self-defence
Can't even play it on the WiiEmerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome0 -

Go on! Have a crack at a sprint tri! Your bike fitness will already be a big help.
With young kids, it seems much easier for me to train for those without too much disruption to family life just using the commute. It's not perfect by any stretch, but better than running and swimming. I've done one on a heavy mtb and that was seriously hard work (albeit great fun), so but a cross bike would make life a lot easier. Check out the British Cycling website - the calendar/events section will tell you where/when the cross races are.
I could certainly beat kids now you mention it. Will I have to disguise myself to get in? Cheers though - and the Scottish CX lunatics have a nice branded gilet... Hmm!
Rockbuddy, it is indeed! Have you not heard of Murdo Munro?! You HAVE heard of Cameron MacPish though. He doesn't like the TAC for some reason
Cullen_Bay - ooh diss! My gf is a former edinburgh tennis champion though *boasty* and is bossing, err coaching me a bit. She doesn't half fit her tennis dress too. 8)0 -

(Squash was one of the many sports I turned out also not to be very good at in my yoot. I gave up after discovering that ankles aren't designed to be folded....)0 -
Skiing - although far less than I used to. And that's it really. I used to play squash but gave up at Uni. I love watching footie but never got on playing it. TBH I'm not sure that I have the time/energy to do anything other than cycling.

it should have an option for "Other".
Rock Climbing and Football"It is not impossible, its just improbable"
Specialized Rockhopper Pro Disc 080 -
Sailing is my main sport (hence the name and photo). Cycling helps keeps my legs strong enough so that sailing doesn't hurt too much (and its good fun)0

Going to do my first Mountain Marathon this year so that should be interesting. In case you don't know what a MM is think orienteering but in the mountains and covering marathon plus distances each day over two days whilst carrying all your equipment for the overnight stop.
Apart from that I try and kitesurf, surf, climb(rock/ice/mountaineering) and ski/snowboard as much as possible.Short hairy legged roadie FCN 4 or 5 in my baggies.

None of the above !
Apart from cycling (commuting, MTB and now the new road bike take up quite a bit of time), I sail, snowboard, kayak and hike up the occasional mountain.
Sailing as I do it is uncompetitive and is a great way to unwind- anchor in a quiet bay, fire up the barbie, crack open a bottle of vino,.... - so no, can barely even be classed as a sport !
Snowboarding IS competitive, I clearly have to race my skier friends down mountains to show the superiority of the single-plank approach to snowsports :-)
Kayaking is just plain fun, either summer touring (sometimes as far as the tea shop) or winter whitewater scariness.
I have realised that all of my sports are gear-intensive. I have a whoie room devoted to assorted goretex, neoprene, and lycra :shock:Misguided Idealist0 -
Other than cycling i play football twice a week, which helps to keep stamina levels up.
I have always liked table tennis, badminton but haven't played much for a while.Commuter Surosa Toledo S34 Audax
Best Bike Merida Road Race 901-18
In truth i love them both0 -
Diving, caving, cave-diving. Part of my original motivation for cycling was dive-fitness, then I realised I really enjoyed it :P0

You are a mad man.
Listen - I like swimming - I enjoy looking at stalactities like anyone else.
What I really like doing however is breathing - eating sandwiches - looking at the sky, perhaps read a paper.
Why anyone would engage in pitch black, feezing cold, unground slow death in murky water suicide is absolutely beyond me....
Wouldn't you be happier with a game of bowls and half a Mild?Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.
What would Thora Hurd do?0 -

Welcome, nigglenoo
I tend to get invited to games of badminton and that sorts of stuff too, and I don't like it either!
I cycle, sail, ski, and dance. None of them competitively, but just for the enjoyment
(that's a lie, I have won a couple of little awards for the swing dance, but only on a tiny wee friendly local level - the dancers we get in Brizzle aren't a patch on London)0 -

This is true..!
So you're a gay-on-tray then? In our group last time we had those vs us, the dicks on sticks, or w@nks on planks...0 -

Ah but sometimes it's spectacular! Here's a picture Wes Skiles took of a chamber in Florida0 -
The only one of the above I have actually played recently is cricket (albeit in the nets, mainly versus a bowling machine), so that got my vote. I love football, but haven't hunted down a regular game for several years. I like tennis a lot but never seem to get round to it; squash I am good at but don't much enjoy. But I am best at badminton, having played at a fairly high standard at school, and I wish I got to play it more often. Fancy a badminton meet-up, chaps?0

It is a well known fact (amongst climbers) that all cavers are perverts
Cave diving looks spectacular but if I am not mistaken the mortality rate is up there with BASE jumping and fishing for Alaskan crab. Think I will stick to doing silly speeds on my bike, snowboard/skis and attaching myself to kites which are way to big.Short hairy legged roadie FCN 4 or 5 in my baggies.

"gay-on-a-tray?!!!?" Harumph ! The only confirmed gays on my last snow trip were (a) skiers and (b) girls !
On your trip, who won - skiers or boarders ?
I used to be a skier, but I saw the light....tried skiing again a couple of years ago and hated it. But I shouldn't mock the 2-plank crew too much, they are useful to help tow me along the flat bits ;-)Misguided Idealist0 -

Its bad enough being at 25m knowing that although you can see the surface there will be all manner of problems if you go there in a hurry. But not to be able to go there in a hurry?
No, wreck and cave diving is on the "never" lilst for me, along with bungee jumping, base jumping and dancing.0 -
......another vote for other.
Main sport is Rowing, started commuting for a bit of extra training. As I have scaled down the rowing find myself thinking about sportives and assaults on Mont Ventoux etc. Competitive to a good club standard, which still requires serious time and effort.
Upside being long days by the river in the sun (next week hopefully, once we get knocked out).0 -

I have the odd go at Snowboarding but get so hacked-off with it, I love my skis!
One of the girls on our last trip - a confirmed boarder for years - borrowed my skis for a few hours while I messed about on her board. She realised she missed them a lot, so will now hire skis and a board the next time she goes - half and half...
Hah well - boarders win on steep runs with tons of thick wavy powder, but they lose out a bit on the gentler slopes between runs... I shout at them to straighten up, then I get some speed up, spread my skis either side of their board and give them an almighty push! I lose a hell of a lot of momentum but it's really satisfying!
Oh, and I fear catching an edge too, I've seen most of my boarding mates just wiped out for 10 minutes waiting to regain their heads after a surprise WHACK head-first into the ground. Even the ones wearing helmets.0 -

Para-penting or whatever the heck it's called. Not a pleasant experience at all (despite the Queenstown scenery). I practically kissed the ground after I landed. Sky-diving was actually much better but only because the guy I was attached to wasn't doing any of the loopy-loop stuff the para-penting driver was doing.
Leo - there is a not a cat in hell's chance I would dive to any depth which required me to use anything more than a snorkel, let alone somewhere like that. In the nicest possible way, you're a stark, raving mad.FCN 2-4.

Urmmm -
Rugby (still club member and train, but don't play now through injury)
Football, gave up 11 a side through injury and lack of team, still play 5 a side.
Squash when I can
Tennis with kids and wife
Rowing, club member and fairweather sculler - quit squad and competing through injury
Snowboarding, quit through broken vertibrae and broken left arm in 1995....still have the odd go though.
Mountain biking - hopefully competing this year in a club
Time trial, do
Triathlon, do
Anything else/!?!?!?!?!?!?0 -

I can thoroughly recommend the free fall simulating wind tunnels. There is one at Milton Keynes snowdome. Airtrix. You get a couple of minutes practicing sky diving i.e. holding position in the airflow, turning left and right and moving up and down in the airflow. OK so you don't have the ground rush but you do get the thrill of controlling your flight.
Bungee jumping is just a thrill event, no skill necessary.Short hairy legged roadie FCN 4 or 5 in my baggies.

another diver here ! wrecks are great cos you can decide how far you want to go into them (if at all) and it's a ready made reef as well, never really wanted to do caves though - that picture of the floridian cave is a million miles away from UK cavediving !
anyone want to try freediving? all you need is your lungs and fins"I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, how good is that"
