Has anyone been? I had a mini training session there about 7 years ago on a fixed wheel bike and it was pretty scary but fun.

I think they have sunday training sessions now
http://www.hernehillvelodrome.com/

The thing is I'm not really fit enough for that kind of thing at the moment and was wondering what kind of training I should do to increase fitness, endurance and weight loss.

I currently commute in everyday on and e-bike covering around 100 miles per week which has really help develop my muscles etc but thats about it.

I'm thinking that I should start doing training rides over the weekend on my mountain bike and possibly a circuit training session at the gym.

What do you guys think?

I know it might be a confidence thing, but if you want to go, just go. Have fun. Don't take it seriously. Take it seriously later. Easy to say, I know.

I just remembered that they also have a really good mountain bike course next to the trac, you can see it in the aerial photo in the about page, there were some pretty scary drops from what i remember.

Its the only Velodrome in London too I think :)

When are we going? Are hybrids allowed? With hi-viz? I could leave the pitchfork at home otherwise I'll have a polic escort

It's saturday mornings that they do the noob sessions, isn't it? Someone posted a thread a while ago...

AFAIK they have a strict no garden tools or baying mobs rule... but nothing against hi-viz. I think, however, that you have to either disconnect your brakes or use one of their bikes. No clue on hybrids.

Bikes must be fixed, no brakes, drop bars. No mention of pitch forks, but as sharp objects are generally barred, maybe a shovel would be more acceptable.

    PS. First post.... Hi

    Hi Oddjob. Welcome :D

My bike is heavy enough as it is without adding a shovel to it so I'll have pass on that one, unfortunately

If spectators are allowed I could do that. I don't consider myself to have enough cycling experience to attempt anything at the Velodrome just yet.

Hey Oddjob! You could add your hat-flinging skills to Wanda's pitchfork arsenal... ;)

And Wanda, you'd be fine. There'll be lots of noobs, I don't doubt.

i'd imagine the track wouldn't be too much problem more travelling as a group, track bikes do remind one if you try to freewheel nothing bad just a twitch i had a go when on honeymoon of all times though was no one but I on the track as Melbourne seems to have tons of tracks much like uk has bmx parks

Oops sorry, I have been in Norway near the arctic circle, was fab, I checked out bikes too..evreyone was riding these http://www.diamantrad.com/
I guess its a Scandinavian brand.

I...yes I..am...well I want to get a bit fitter first, things are going well, but I'm not feeling that I want to hang out at a velodrom and not be as fit as I'd like.

Sooo I'm giving myself a month to get there then we can organise a trip..how does that sound??

*raises hand shyly* I would like to go too one day!

I have been before, a few years ago, and really enjoyed it, but was in no way fit enough or fast enough to keep up with the pace and at that point hadn't ridden a bike since I was a teenager. Would love to give it another try.

I'd much rather embarrass myself in front of girls than boys but, if they promise to behave (kind of), I've no problem with it :D
