  • If you do reserve and collect, you will pay the discounted price and can choose when you go into the store, also you do not pay for reserve and collect online, so its more like the bike is reserved for you, and its up to you whether you want it or not.

It's a good deal and a good option, it'll more than do you proud. 20" frame - by the time you've jacked that seat post up and adjusted the handlebar spacers I think you should be good to go.

    Hello,

You've prompted me into my first post! I'm trying to find a bike myself. I've gone from a Claud Butler Cape Wrath D27 (I saw them on sale for £370) to a Rockhopper, a Genesis Core 20, and today looking for cheaper bikes (as the budget started at £360!) I came across a Commencal Normal Disc 2009 for £350:

    http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/custom-mo ... -2009.html

my heart is now split between the Rockhopper and Core but my wallet says the Commencal is a bike with a great spec for the price. I want a bike that will be worth upgrading if I want to so I guess the frame is the important element.

But I'm still at the bottom of the learning curve.

dickst3 - it's better if you start your own thread rather than hijacking some else's, you'll get more focused responses. :)

My brother in law has had the Claud Butler Cape Wrath for a couple of months now an is already talking about part-ex'ing it for a better model, don't know what sort of recommendation that is.

I've got the Genesis and the Commencal bookmarked for regular perving but I'm secretly in love with a Rockhopper Comp Disc.

    It's gorgeous:

Sorry it came across the way it did but I wasn't looking for advice (not yet anyway), it was meant to give LEE05 some ideas !

Lovely. Cheers for the advice on the CB. I've pretty much decided against it now - I've done nothing but read these forums for weeks! I'll see what my budget is like in the next month or so and look out for bargains.

LEE05 - didnt mean to hijack your thread. Good luck with your bike.

Very well. You should sit on both and see which one feels best to you.

and don't forget to sit on the Kraken while you're in Halfords. :D

GT - Suntour XCR, 120mm travel, rebound damping & lock-out / Tektro Auriga Comp hydraulic disc brakes, 160rotors

    Normal - SunTour XCR LO 100mm / Avid Juicy 3 160/160

You've got more travel on the GT with 120mm travel both have lock out and damping. Some would argue the Avid juicy 3 is better than Auriga Comp but I've squeezed both and there's bugger all between them as far as I was concerned, flick a coin. Which is why you need to go and see for yourself. See what's right for you.

As has been said frame sizes are not standard and vary so much one 20" frame might well be another manufacturers 18.5". You can only order and try the largest GT frame, same for the Normal.

^ Decathlon Rockriders are recommended hardtails in the Bikeradar What Hardtail thread above.

It's arguably about the best spec'd bike out of all of them listed here. ...and it's in XL. ;)

    Very good.

I'd recommend the large, the 22 (XL) will probably be too big for you.
