So chapesses...
I can get up to Guildford on the train - change at Gatwick rather than Clapham (I hate that station!) - bikes are blessedly allowed on the weekends! It takes about 1 and half hours to get there, which is fine, and as I'm an early riser, I won't make us start late
I can't do 1st August, but can do 25th July or 8th August.... any takers?

The Downs Link does what it says on the tin - links the North Downs with the South Downs
It starts at the top near Guidlford and ends at the bottom at Shoreham-by-Sea, which is near Brighton. I live at the bottom.... 37 lovely miles...

Right, my lovely man is going to drop me off at Newlands Corner, then drive down to Shoreham, park up and ride up to meet us. This means I get a lift home and we could probably fit in one or two people I ride like a girl

Thanks for the heads-up genspain. I am lucky in that the ride finishes right next to my favourite pub, the Red Lion and then it is a three minute ride to get home. Right then ladies, forgive me for a moment but I am a bloke so can't mutitask etc.......
... now,about the Downs Link ride on the 1st. Why, when the DL starts at St.Martha's Hill does everyone meet at Newlands Corner which is about 2 miles t'other side of Guildford from the stations? Hello DW, I've just been on to Matthew at BloodSweat&Tyres and he has kindly informed me that, on August 1st they are meeting at the site of the old Bramley & Wonersh station at 9am, so I shall get an early train up to Shalford then work my way down from there.Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)

actually, that's a fair point... when we meet up on 8th August, where do I need to go to get from the station in Guildord to the proper start?

Looking at the OS map for Guildford, St. Martha's Hill is around 2km (on fairly busy roads) from Guildford station and Newlands Corner is a further 1.5 kms east down a track off White Lane. Depending on whether going to Newlands Corner is a must I would suggest, Jenny, as you are coming from Brighton that travelling by train to Shalford and meeting the ride at Bramley & Wonersh (Station Road) seems the easier option.
