It's 'fixed gear humour'. Or sarcasm to you and me.
May not have been fixed though - if it really was a single speed, that's much much worse. Embarrassing, actually.
Was it really such a good idea to post this, Stefano?
(probabaly not a good idea to post this either) but .....ah well.......winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

Nothing to be ashamed about really is it. You just don't know who you're passed by do you? A friend of mine just completed a 10TT in 21m and a 25TT in 59m the following day, on his fixed track bike.
PS. I checked with him but he wasn't near Bath, sorry."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0 -
Funniest overtake I ever had was when I was tearing it up going up the Itchen Bridge. I was halfway up doing about 20mph I'd say and look to my right and there is this old fella on what the LBS often described as a "bone shaker" of a bike, two full panniers, sandals and a big white beard. He was 70 and thats a humble estimation and he left me for dust!0

To make matters worse he rubbed it in by saying "you looked good".
In defense i tried to say "gone a lot further than you" but in reality i probably hadn't. I had had a few drinks though which always makes my legs feel heavy for some reason but still......
He turned off strait away and i almost followed him for the sake of my pride but thought, he's only got one gear there's no pride to be clawed back from that
Anyway needed to vent the shame somewhere and where better
I was just thinking that it could have been a LOT worse. Could have been a GIRL on a single speed.
I remember once I was out riding and a car full of young teenage girls came up behind me
and they were yelling "nice ass" and the like. This shortly changed to eeeeeeeuuuuuu,
yuck, and make me puke when they realized I was a senior citizen(59). They sped away rather quickly. I almost fell over laughing. Imagine, an old fart like me.0 -
There's no shame at all - he was on a single speed. He must have had a huge weight advantage over you what with all those heavy gears you have to drag along with you. Tell him next time to try it on a proper bikeFaster than a tent.......0

it's ok, all bets are off - you had had a few beers, so it doesn't count! (there, does that help?)
besides, that's the oldest one in the book. pass the guy in front of you, sit up as you are doing it so that you don't even look like you are working and casually roll off around the next corner so that he doesn't sit on you and make you work all the way home!regards,

I have 2 sons with Autism who have been referred to as Retards, so please explain.
This word is used too casually.
Agree, i too have links to Autism and find the use of this word "unhelpful"
dmclite, Are you thinking of doing the racecourse ride for the National Autistic Society in July?"If you think you can, or if you think you can't, your right" Henry Ford0 -
I still don't understand why "you looked good" is an insult. Only the person there at the time would know the way the words were used.
There's been so much paranoia on the forums lately, lots of posts about people feeling they're being looked down on because of the bike they ride or the clothes they wear :roll:0 -

just because i'm paranoid doesn't mean their not out to get me :?"If you think you can, or if you think you can't, your right" Henry Ford0 -
Sounds like you might find him on the Silly Commuting Racing forum, where he would get great credit for:
- singlespeed
- no lycra
- snide comments
- leaving you demoralised
but best of all, it was probably carefully planned - you don't know how long he drafted you or how far he'd ridden; the quick turn off smacks of SCR tactics, I'll bet he was carefully modulating his breathing too - big FCN bonus as they might say in SCR. The really, really crucial thing about SCR, of course, is that you must never, ever look like you're racing.
But seriously, I'm glad that I ride on mostly empty roads with very few other cyclists around - not that I'm not competitive, more the opposite, I can't resist a challenge, the only "racing" I've ever done done is the Etape C a couple of times & each and every rider who overtook, dropped or otherwise smoked me caused real pain, mostly 'cause I can't help responding even when it's stupid in the context of the ride as a whole.0 -
Barkiesnale, didn'y know about it, can you send a link please?0

Hi dmclite
here is link http://www.autism.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=2116
I have to admit to having ulterior motive for this as the whole thing was my idea and i have been helping with the organisation of the event as well."If you think you can, or if you think you can't, your right" Henry Ford0
