Has Cake Stop got a 'quote of the month' thread? This is good!
Making a cup of coffee is like making love to a beautiful woman. It's got to be hot. You've got to take your time. You've got to stir... gently and firmly. You've got to grind your beans until they squeak.
And then you put in the milk.

Ok, so under that theory church bells should be illegal, driving past houses should be illegal, where i lived next to a train track-the trains should be banned

Church bells are a traditional part of English life for many centuries. Cars are an essential for modern life. The trains were there before you were. The selfish morons next door are a new development. By all means do what you like in your own property as long as it doesn't pollute the lives of others; no one should need to ask you.

People who play music loudly (like those who use musical ring tones on their mobiles) always seem to live under the delusion that their music signifies to the admiring public that they have an exceptional taste in music that others can only aspire to. In reality, it signifies to everyone that they are idiots with bad taste and, hopefully, plenty of hopeless visits to the ear doctor in future to cure their chronic tinnitus!

I have a musical ring tone on my phone just so I know its mine and like the tune plus it is different

Anyone who doesn't have their phone on vibrate only deserves contempt!

Has the vast majority of Cake stop woken up on the wrong side of bed or have you always been this grumpy?
You live and learn. At any rate, you live

Could be worse. They could be Chris Moyles fans.

Hi Stefano. You don't live far from me. I'll be round outside your house this weekend playing some of my favourite tunes from my car.

Maybe I'm an old fart. But the music I enjoy could be Chinese water torture to others. Ever enjoyed pure silence, the type you get in the French countryside. The smells we cyclist gets in summer when they pass newly cut grass. Au natural pour moi.

    Fine by me mate :D
Just don't be offended if i ask you to turn it down

  • My brother in law used to live next door to Anthony Daniels in that London villiage place, boy did Mr Daniels not like music being played in back gardens & would constantly complain . However my brother in law just couldn't take being bolloxed by C-3PO seriouisly & would generally just burst out laughing.....

He never did send in the Stormtroppers despite many a threat (ok I made that bit up).

    Lol... where do they live?

Do you do it?? As soon as the sun comes out you stick your music on alfresco for others to suffer. I have asked nicely but even though it's quieter its still there.
How do I get a peaceful summers afternoon. I don't mind the sound of kids having fun or even the motorised lawnmower but music- any music is just pollution.
Can anyone recommend any inet kabuki radio stations??

Don't get me started on the marching pipe bands and Red Arrows fly past. Oi Ma'am, give it a rest.

Well, don't get me started on bloody ice-cream vans. Every summer, as soon as the temperature heats up, a slightly out-of-tune version of Greensleeves rings out. Every 5 minutes. All day. And in case anyone's wondering how bad Greensleeves sounds when played on ice-cream-van-chimes, it's absolutely awful the first time you hear it, but nothing compared with how bad it is after the 1000th time.

I can't stand just out of earshot, tinny music played through a cheapo stereo. My neighbours very rarely play music outside, thank god, but there's nothing worse than the nagging tsh, tsh, tsh of music you can't quite hear buzzing in the background when all you ant to do is doze on a chair with a magazine in the sun listening to the birds and the sound of the breeze in the trees.

Lawnmowers are noisy but usually only used for a short time, kids make noise but somehow it's not as invasive or constantly annoying and in any case you can't exactly tell the neighbours to lock their kids away all summer, ice cream vans only usually play their tuneless music for quick blasts but tinny, only just audible music from a few gardens along is just plain annoying. Why do people need to disturb their neighbours?! Aaarrgh!
