Do you do it?? As soon as the sun comes out you stick your music on alfresco for others to suffer. I have asked nicely but even though it's quieter its still there.
How do I get a peaceful summers afternoon. I don't mind the sound of kids having fun or even the motorised lawnmower but music- any music is just pollution.
Can anyone recommend any inet kabuki radio stations??

Get a Karaoke machine, point it at your neighbor, and invite all the neighborhood children over to sing Brittany Spears tunes. :twisted:0

Get your hose pipe out and accidentally give the offending machinery a drink.
There are some people like that near me. Housing Association low intelligence scum. They blight neighbourhoods. They frequently ruin a pleasant summer afternoon or evening by playing music loudly, barking dog, kids screaming screaching, lots of bad language, shouting drunkeness and drugs. Being in the garden with this going on nearby is a nightmare so am only in the garden early in the morning before they surface. They have nothing so you can't sue them. They would sooner come round and smash your windows or slash your tyres or arrange for your house to burgled than listen to reason and recognise the errors of their ways. They are all on benefit having never legitimately worked in their lives. They are given enough money to be on a decent salary after tax. They have no incentive to change and stick their middle finger up to authority. The police, Council or housing associations aren't interested. So I'm quite wary as I don't want my bikes nicked. I blame the Government (2 Fat Prescotts) for their social housing policies mixing these people in with normal people who just want to work, live normally and get on peacefully with their neighbours. Scum.
I look forward to rain at least it keeps them inside, most of the time, except the dog.Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Anon.

As loathesome as these sort of people are surely your suggestion is a bit........ extreme. Petrol is very expensive . Just move them all to an area full of other people who want to live just like them. As long as they are well away from normal people who just want to get on peacefully with life and every one else. There should certainly be greater powers for police and new powers for neighbourhood watch groups to enter these properties and seize offending audio equipment and fine them on the spot then for their benefits to be stopped.Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Why shouldn't the OP be allowed to enjoy peace and quiet on his own property on a nice sunny day?
Why, in this country, is the onus always on the victim to justify their grievances? Whatever happened to getting along with one's neighbours?

Bit awkward isn't it. I often have to "put up with" music from next door on occasion but also I like to listen to my radio when carrying out maintainance on my bikes whist in the garden.
If they have theirs on I tend to turn my radio off and think it's saving my leccy bill.
My opinion is as long as it's not invasive does it really matter?Tail end Charlie

Live and let live. Why not pop round next time they play it loud and the suns shining with a bottle of lambrini wearing a thong and some nice sandals. tell them you love music and can you come round whenever they play music. That should put a stop to it. 8)0

On a few occasions when the sun has been shining and the weather is warm, I've heard dim and distant music wafting on the summer breeze from a nearby neighbour's house.. By the time the sound reaches chez mois it is quite feint and often only the base line is discernable. Nevertheless, I have identified that this unknown neighbour is a bit of a Northern Soul fan. As I too misspent my youth at all night soul music venues dancing 'till dawn I have thought that one day I will go round, knock his/her door loudly and when opened , I shall announce "I've come about the music.....could you please turn it UP ! (it's bloody frustrating trying to listen from a few doors away and not be able to make out the sounds properly."Two wheels good, four wheels bad0

But having been complained to why is the other person not the victim of being told what she/he can or can't do on their own property?

Because the creator of the noise is allowing that noise to 'come onto the land' of complainant, spoiling the 'quiet enjoyment' of the complainant. All tightly defined, cut-and-dried stuff under the law of nusiance.
The road is a public place and the public have a right to use it ('lo not a right to operate a motor vehicle - that is done under license, and a license is less than a right )0 -

And colour. Don't even mention colour. Pollution for the eyes, that is.Making a cup of coffee is like making love to a beautiful woman. It's got to be hot. You've got to take your time. You've got to stir... gently and firmly. You've got to grind your beans until they squeak.

Ok, so under that theory church bells should be illegal, driving past houses should be illegal, where i lived next to a train track-the trains should be banned
The neighbour had already turned the music down so it's not like he was having a rave at 3am is it :?:winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

My brother in law used to live next door to Anthony Daniels in that London villiage place, boy did Mr Daniels not like music being played in back gardens & would constantly complain . However my brother in law just couldn't take being bolloxed by C-3PO seriouisly & would generally just burst out laughing.....
He never did send in the Stormtroppers despite many a threat (ok I made that bit up).0 -
This doesn;t sound like the volume is unreasonable....you have already asked them to turn it down, which they did...if you are still not happy, phone the environmental health...they can check if the volume is above a prescribed reasonable number of decibels...butit doesn't sound like that is the issue.....
Hell is other people.........including you. (and me...of course)

Church bells are a traditional part of English life for many centuries. Cars are an essential for modern life. The trains were there before you were. The selfish morons next door are a new development. By all means do what you like in your own property as long as it doesn't pollute the lives of others; no one should need to ask you.
People who play music loudly (like those who use musical ring tones on their mobiles) always seem to live under the delusion that their music signifies to the admiring public that they have an exceptional taste in music that others can only aspire to. In reality, it signifies to everyone that they are idiots with bad taste and, hopefully, plenty of hopeless visits to the ear doctor in future to cure their chronic tinnitus!Faster than a tent.......0 -
Our neighbours used to have a fondness for Meat Loaf (the singer; I couldn't comment on their food) which used to annoy the (Bat Out Of) hell out of me. Every time I'd sat myself down ready for a nice bit of a snooze they'd crank 'The Best of Meatloaf' at me - seeming unaware that sound was perfectly able to travel beyond their fence.
Add the somewhat cretinous bloke on the other side who talks to his dogs ("Have you poo'd? You have haven't you? You've poo'd") and you can see why the iPod has really caught on.0 -
Play your music louder - they normally get the hintCarlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0

I think you may want to brush up on tort a bit, because this is cobblers.
Fair enough, if your neighbours are banging out their music at volume until the small hours then yeah, you've got a legitimate complaint (and christ knows I've had this often enough myself). But if we're talking music at a reasonable volume during the day/evening then I think the problem is more with you - specifically that you're a bit of a misery-guts unsuited for modern life. It doesn't seem as if it's noise per se that is the problem - there are certain sounds (garden machinery, kids, cars) that are apparently fine with BR's noise police. It's just that the OP and a few others don't like the music and expect everyone else within earshot of their houses to modify their behaviour to suit them. What if I started a thread about how I couldn't stand the sound of the neighbour's kids playing? I'd be branded a miserable git, and rightly so.0 -

Folk with amplifiers haven't though! I can see and understand why people might want to listen to their music loudly but if you have near neighbours, the thoughtful solution is simple - headphones. You get to enjoy your music, others get to enjoy the afternoon. What is so difficult about that?Faster than a tent.......0 -
Have you not read the other posts? The neighbour was asked to turn it down and complied..................

Hi Stefano. You don't live far from me. I'll be round outside your house this weekend playing some of my favourite tunes from my car.

Maybe I'm an old fart. But the music I enjoy could be Chinese water torture to others. Ever enjoyed pure silence, the type you get in the French countryside. The smells we cyclist gets in summer when they pass newly cut grass. Au natural pour moi.
