Building up a bike to use for jumping and messin' around on....
Frame arrived sooner than I expected thanks to Brookes & Co. Cycles.
This is the Dawes Edge 2004 frame that is being replaced, my first true mtb... - Now in the garage, waiting for a retro build in 10 years time
I love bike boxes so much....
One Charge Blender

Get your priorities right Whytepeak.
Should've used the money to get a lawnmower.0 -

Charge make some lovely frames, nice and simple with vibrant decals, very nice!
Of course I am biased as I'm currently building up a charge duster and just waiting for the brakes to come so I can get out and ride...0 -
Yep, your duster is nice chorscroft, going to try to get mine running by thursdayNow that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10

New parts
Everything has arrived ready to build (except a rear brake, but who needs that )
The frame is still at the lbs having a BB put in - who takes three days to do that? :x
Spent the weekend in wales , but with no bike.
The weather was great and I went to a couple of peotry readings.
Also went for a walk in the gardens and found an amazing bit of trail that went on for miles, ever wished that you had your bike....?
Spent the rest of the day in the gardens
Will hopefully get some more bike related pics up soon, if the lbs ever gives me my frame backNow that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -
I feel your pain!
I got so frustrated and impatient waiting for the last few bits and bobs to finish the bike before I could use it but it's done now and I've had it out twice a day for the past 3 days and loved every second
The charge frame is really brilliant; next step charge duster TI...0 -
Just remembered the headset. Bet that'll take the lbs another week
I'll see tomorrow if I can get a headset fitted, and then get the frame back.

wow - nice garden - i wish i lived at your house! 8)0

Thats not my gar......
Does my avatar read Manchester or what? - though I wish it didn't sometimes.
Time then for a quick update on the old bike.
The LBS has had it for 3 weeks, and they have not quite finished yet.
2 Weeks for a BB and a headset to be put in, summer will be over soon :xNow that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -
Top tip- Buy the tools and do it yourself. It's potentially cheaper, quicker and you treat your bike nice compared to a mechanic who maybe has to get through loads of different bikes in a day.

WOOOOP WOOOOP
Got the frame back frome the lbs.

Great!
Pics posted when you're done!0 -
After a few hours with the 'bike building God' (Me )
All I need to do is service the rear hub and get the forks serviced and maybe have the travel reduced.
But before all that is a test ride on monday. - going road riding with Dad this weekend
All thats left is to get some gear cable inner and outer, and throw a chain on, and its ready.
- But still illegal , need a rear disk brake still  - Actually quite a lot needs doing :shock:Now that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -
Looking good!
What forks are you using? As to the travel I would keep it as pictured, as the geometry seems spot on for a blender.
Seatpost seems pretty high but.
E13 bash looks great against the frame.0 -

Nah that's a proper lawn, look what a lush green it is! Top lawn whytepeak and the bike's not bad either0 -

The forks are 2004 Marzocchi EXR Supra 8) - a 'marathon' fork.
It is at 120 at the min. however I am tempted to reduce the travel - I don't really rate the fork for strength, but I will see after a test ride next week.
The only new things are a seatpost, a headset and the e.13 device - which is currently guiding nothing - does look good thoughNow that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -

Thanks
The lawn is quite patchy on the other side of the garden - where I clean the bikes.
I don't think Finish Line Citrus Degreaser is very kind to lawns.
I'll try to get some better pics of the bike when it is fully built. (call back in about 4 months  )Now that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -
Just gone for a test ride, and the headset is playing up. - Going to take it apart tonight. Think one of the bearing races has snappedNow that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10

Hi whytepeak
Enough about the lawns/gardens. I'm following the build through your pics - what is the next stage?
I agree that the e13 looks sic, but do you really need the crud catcher thingy?0 -
Zaskar20
The pics should remain fairly similar from now on.
However I need to sort out: the rear wheel, the forks, the rear brake, the gears- (ran single speed on the test run), and now the headset
Is it me or is the list of things getting longer :x
Anyways, the head angle felt super slack when I went out, although the fork only has 11cm of stanctions showing, which is odd  .
The Crudcatcher was a freeby from a friend, although I gave him my old chainrings for it.
Update:
Sorted the headset and the gears.
Bought a few new bits for it too, all will be revealedNow that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -
Update time
The bike is finished
I'll get some pics up tomorrow as I have been rather busy of late. Now that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -

Thanks,
There is nothing like a sanko steel frame glistening in the light of the setting sun, none of this carbon rubbishNow that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -
You'd be suprised how much carbon is in steel ;-)0
