Still having problems with Garmin 705

Hi all,

I've had my Garmin a while now and in the main I think it's a nice piece of kit. I'm aware of the most of the software problems and I'm sure they are still trying to iron these out. Is anyone still having problems with Garmin Connect uploading long rides?

I did a 60 miler around Box Hill on Sunday which took me over 4 hours. Most of the data from the ride uploaded ok, apart from it's only displayed half the route on the map. And I have the latest firmware.

Any ideas?

I have a 705 too but I have no problems with 4 hour plus rides.

I used to have an issue with the recording...

you can set it to either 1 second recording or smart recording. when this was set to 1 second recording then Garmin connect was hit or miss sometimes....with smart recording there are no issues.
17 Stone down to 12.5 now raring to get back on the bike!

Yep, got it set to smart recording.
  • I recently changed from smart recording to 1 second recording, and I've had no problems with rides up to 6 hours.

OK, i'll try changing to 1 sec to see if it makes a difference. I've got the Wales Dragon ride on Sunday and hopefully it'll record the whole thing.

Do you have auto pause turned on. I had an issue where memory map would split a route up into parts everytime i stopped. So dont use auto pause anymore. Worth a try.

I don't have auto pause turned on, no. I've checked a few of the forums and it seems a few people have the same problem. Suggesting things like going back to the previous firmware (done that), or try manually uploading (done that). It just seems such a badly put together piece of s/w compared to others such as Sportstrack. I persevere because I like the layout and features (when they work).
