L2P Missed Training

I have been training for the London to Paris ride which leaves on the 17th June (ie Next wednesday). I have been following a training program sent to me by the organisers which stated I needed to do a 75 mile ride on Sunday. Due to the weather this simply wasnt possible. I cannont get back out on the bike till this wednesday. My question is, should I do the 75 miles then? Will this give me enough time to recover? 75 miles would be the furthest I have ever cycled. 60 miles being my previous longest ride. The proposed training plan for this week is very light, basically 5 to 10 mile recovery miles so I dont want to mess it up and not be fresh for the event.

Any advice would be greatfully received.

    Wow! Snow, deep floodwater, hurricanes?

Rain! Not just ordinary rain at that! To be fair I was out and managed 25 miles but it became so heavy that it really was pretty dangerous so we came back early.

What's the point of doing recovery rides for a 75 mile ride that you didn't do?

Do the long ride on Wednesday - a week should be more than enough to recover from a 75 mile ride.

Oh, and buy yourself a decent rain jacket in case it rains on the L2P

Considering you are going to be doing back to back to back to back days of around 75 miles - if you can't recover from ONE 75 mile ride in a week - then you may be in trouble!

L2P is an easy ride. It really is. There are so many breaks and stops during the day, that it's more like doing three 25 mile rides in one day, rather than one long 75 mile ride each day. The terrain is mostly flat and as long as the wind isn't too bad, you'll be fine. (I did it last year, and there were some people that hadn't trained at all and some possibly that hadn't even ridden a bike in their lives before!).

if you have the time to do a long ride this week - go for it. If not, don't stress and enjoy your time next week. I bet you anything you come back thinking it was WAYYYYY easier than you thought it would be.

    Good luck!

Is it possible to do the daily mileage non-stop?
    Or are the stops compulsory?

Stops were compulsory on my trip. At the very least you have to sign in at lunch. I suppose if you don't want to eat or refuel at all during the day you can keep going. Other problem is that you set off pretty early each morning and if you were to ride straight through you'd be sat at your hotel, unable to check in for several hours in the afternoon.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster as I would undoubtedly head for the nearest bar!

Thanks for the advice Pokerface, much appreciated.

I guess I will probably aim for the fastest time (for me) in between stops then! :-)

That's what I did. Rode with the first group to set off each day/section and tried to get to the next stop as fast as possible. Of course - that meant waiting around even longer some times! But it was nice to get to the hotel early each day.

Don't blame you for turning back, that's exacly what I did yesterday! Absolutely poured down.
