Capecchi and Farrar don't start today's stage.

Voigt is in an early two man breakaway with Devenyns.

Voigt...hope he is still in the break after I come back from a 2hr ride! And then he is solo battling up the climbs at full bore even though the elite climbers are 200m behind! Or better still, that he solos for the win.

Farrar...so basically Pettacci is laughing with glee as he basically has the magenta jersey in the bag.

Voigt's breakaway has been shut down and they're now all back together.

I really wanna see Jens breakaway and stay away one of these days, the guy is a powerhouse! Have you seen when he sprints without getting up off the saddle? Jeeeez...

I think that's why he rarely stays away though - because the peloton tries 10 times harder to catch him!

Not necessarily, it's not the same as the Tour, mountain stages get the same points as flat stages - so I reckon Di Luca is more likely to get it.

    Serrano has retired.

A breakaway group of 14 have a 2 minute advantage. Serpa is the highest placed in GC in the break at 9.52 down.

    Points classification:

1 Danilo Di Luca (Ita) LPR Brakes - Farnese Vini 112 pts
2 Alessandro Petacchi (Ita) LPR Brakes - Farnese Vini 96
3 Denis Menchov (Rus) Rabobank 79
4 Edvald Boasson Hagen (Nor) Team Columbia - Highroad 78

There's only 1 possible bunch sprint stage, and even that's not certain - it's pretty lumpy:

Di Luca's got it in the bag.

Av speed now just under 37kph.
Grivko on the attack, yet again and taking the GPM points.
Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm beginning to wonder about teams with lettered names.

They haven't really done anything other than go on doomed breakaways. Even then it's only Grivko, Visconti and Scarselli - haven't seen the rest of the team.

That's what I was saying yesterday. Rather higher than normal. Not so bad for the riders until they begin climbing - it will surely affect the team tactics today, so maybe a breakaway of GC no-hopers will be tolerated.

    David Millar has retired.

Pretty sure Di Luca had a mechanical.

On a slog of an unclassified climb. 63kms out. They look knackered with this heat, but are moving along.
Unlike Brit ES, which is showing recorded calander cycling, while the Giro marches on!
    Thank Gawd for Rai. :)

The break has a 6.20 advantage. So if it stayed like that to the finish Serpa would only be 3.32 down on GC and would move up to 8th overall.

Break up to 6'-20". Rabo unable to control Serpa.
So who shows up at the front? Liquigas of course! Give me strength.
What are they playing at? Let Dennis's boys wilt.

Interested watching LL who has sucked on DDL's wheel all afternoon.

It's about time! (in both ways).

Basso needs a bit of distance to get a substantial enough gap. And all helps Pellezotti!
Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.

Basso and Garzelli have a 40 second advantage on the Menchov group. Liquigas are sending their breakaway rider back to help Basso.

    Good stuff.

    Liquigas copying Saeco's 2003 tactic!

Menchov? Sitting a bit far down the group?
    Gibo finally killed off.

But who is this for, Basso or Pellizotti? I can't see Basso and Garzelli getting all the way to the finish here. There's a flat run-in of 20-odd kilometres. Pellizotti could go for bonus seconds at the finish.
