Thought id come over to the dark side and stick my ten pence in.

It doesnt matter about your bike, that fact is that your out and riding, concentrate on that and improving your fitness and speed. Most people hide behind the badge of the bike they ride in a grim hope people will be looking at the bike and not the mistakes he's making.

Dont let snobby fkwits put you off cycling, go out and enojy what your doing, enjoy your bike and when the time comes buy a bike that suits your need x your budget.

Ill get shot if im found posting in here, im off back to the MTB forums!

The same really. One bloke at the bike club insisted that my bike would simply not cut the mustard on their group rides........I can see why my body would have a problem, I am hardly the finely tuned athletic climbing machine that they would perhaps claim to be, perhaps he was being polite in not suggesting that *I* wouldn't make it.

I keep the fastenings deliberately rusty, the parking ticket stays, I need the stand on a daily basis, along with the bell. I own zero lycra and that's how it should stay......

although those Nalini bibshorts are calling to me

...but then just to stick one in their spokes, as it were, and of course to appease the baying of the sprogs:

and he's a bloody good climber at 4, and yes I know, the cables aren't connected....

Ok mate, yep your bike looks s*it and you just want to show off how you burn everyone off, well done you are fabulous. So why not just pedal off into the sunset and take that f**king chip on your shoulder with you.

You just wanted to show off, laugh at people in the first post in a new topic.

plus I bet I could rip your legs off any time.....

Half the club rides Ribble

I think the best way to get ridiculed is to have a white genesis bike in disrepair....

see people are always qiuck to laugh before they actually think about what it is they r doing

Your bike doesn't look like it is on a long run, infact it looks like it has been put next to a garage door to be photographed.

I had a similar experience. I was at a traffic light once and this guy pulled up on his De Rosa bike (I admit it was one sexy bike) he was checking my £250 Viking Monza and sort of sticks his nose up after. I wasn't too bothered about him checking out the bike, but what's up with the nose?

Red switched to green light he sprints away, his bike being all out carbon it's only natural that the acceleration of his bike is faster than mine. Then I decided to smoke this guy. 300 metres along I just smoked him and he couldn't keep up until the next red light he was about 3 seconds behind me. In my mind I was like have you not seen my big calf and thighs? these are bloody work horses.

But don't get me wrong I still envy and wish for an all out Carbon bike, just not the attitude please. We should be a community of bikers.

I know exactly what you guys are talking about apart from the other side. I have a spicy 316 which is an expensive bike, when I'm out you can see people looking and expecting me to do something great on it.

No chance, I might fall off and scratch it!

    I'm with Mr Wu,
I ride a Giant defy 2.5, nothing special, but i like it's understated black, white & grey paint job, and it's mine. I don't care if people on more expensive / fancier bikes like it or not, i'm not trying to sell it to them. I just go out with others at the club on training rides and enjoy myself. I find that there is always a bit of ribbing about bikes in any club same as anything else, just grow a thicker skin and don't take it personally.

Now the fact that bib shorts make me look like Jack Black in "Nacho Libre" is a different mater entirely :D

As long as the bike gets me from A to B I'm happy. I only use mine for commuting but I do have 2 one for wet weather one for dry and the dry weather bike is a nice 10 year old TCR Expert.

Are you sure? chips on shoulders have been known to cloud vision. Maybe he was clearing his nose!

Despite what you have probably read, this is not true, in any practical sense. Rider mass dramatically outweighs bike mass. If he out-accelerated you, he did so because he was stronger. This stuff is called - silly commuter racing. There's a long running thread on the commuting board about it. Don't take it so seriously.

Not sure what the OP is getting at, ride what you want simple. Not sure what we can do about any pesonal insecurities you may have. Personally I would not have purchased the bike you have for the money you say you paid but that is what makes life so jolly interesting. I also like exotica, the workmanship, ride qualities etc and have no problem with people who ride/or don't well or not their expensive works of art. Also the title of the thread is rather ironic?!

Oh no, I'm scared to go out now in case someone sees me. And 'm not telling you lot what I ride or what I wear or how fast or long I ride. I'll probably keep quiet about what I eat and how much I weigh too.

Perhaps we could chat about knitting patterns?

The way I see this is that the OP desperately wants a better bike and he is convinced the rest of the cycling community sneer at his modest machine. He overcompensates by trying to 'beat' every other cyclist on the road (despite the fact that these other cyclists could be 'pootling or returning from a 120 mile trip into the hills)..

I have 2 road bikes, one is a modestly specced Giant TCR2 (with mudguards  ) and the other is a carbon Dolan. I am absolutely 100% convinced that I have never been treated differently by anyone on either bike.

So to the OP, get over yourself, if you want a better bike then buy one so you can 'smoke' even more riders

And that saddle bag (though it contains meds) is still like a cow's udder, you could have at least taken it off for the glamour shot

I don't give two toots what anyone else rides, what they wear while they ride, how fast they ride, who they ride with etc etc they all get the same hello as we pass, either that be in the opposite direction or if they are smoking past me. Makes no difference to my riding whatsoever!! :)

Saying that I will be on the look out for the OP from now on :)

I must say i've never experienced this, even when i used too try D/H MTB'ing on a real crappy old pro-flex and people had to wait ages at the bottom for me. Maybe you're paranoid and if not then why do you care what anyone thinks? Haven't you got any friends or family, meaning you seek acceptance from cyclists?

    Bollocks!!!

I ride a nice Python RX3 - not the most glamourous bike ever built but it's what I could afford. I have seen umpteen riders on much more exotic machines and each has either waved or nodded or said hello. I also like team gear, so if I can afford it I will buy it - not for the "Ooh look at me" but because I LIKE IT. It doesn't make me faster, nor fitter but I look better in it than just a t-shirt or something else.

It's not about what you ride - it's the fact that you're riding right now. That's all that matters.

    Get over it!
