Given Wiggins' improved climbing ability i had wondered if he may stand a chance in this one. If there were more flat roads then he could do really well but i think the lack of these will harm him. 8th or 9th if he goes for it? He did quite well on the Albi time trial in the tour back in 2007. Maybe his relatively poor performance on the stage on sunday was due to him keeping his powder dry for today?

Only beaten by three Astanas including the doped Vinokourov, along with Evans (who i think would do very well on this course).

Menchov got dropped on a descent in last year's tour so maybe this course wont be great for him. However, being a good TTer and being in really good form at the moment means that he should be up there today. Leipheimer is my pick for the win but he hasnt been doing that well recently. Maybe he has just been preparing for this although getting dropped on a downhill is worrying. Bruseghin won the hilly TT last year but his form seems a bit erratic to me. Rogers is a good TTer and will be up there. Lovkvist is a good TTer too and it will be interesting to see how he goes given his loss of time the other day. Sastre will probably do well, enough to keep in contention for a podium place. Am interested to see how Armstrong will go. Tomorrow should be an easy day and the day after could be as well if a break stays away so he may well be able to give it a good go.

How highly would people rate Bruseghin's bike handling/descending skills?

As this is longer than normalTT courses, I was wondering whether riders with the ability to ride solo/small number breaks for very long periods of time would do well?

Pretty new to following Pro cycling. I know it's all about the power produced etc, but seeing as it's not all about aero position and TT specialists, am I way of in suggesting someone like Jens Voigt could do well?

Given Sastre's Tour TT last year, maybe he'd be a good bet! He got downhill fast enough yesterday...

    I agree.

I'll go out on a limb and have

    1)Sastre
    2)Wiggins
    3)Leipheimer

I don't think this is a TT for the likes of Levi or Rogers and Menchov is a chicken sh1t decender. I think Basso is made for this one and to a lesser extent Sastre. Armstrong may give it a right go, especially if he ordered home delivery last night. Di Luca? I hope not.

I'm intrigued to see how Garzelli goes. It could suit him if he wants to have a pop.
It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.

Not everyone who starts a GT intends to finish.

Why won't they do it? Most of it is climbing or technical descending, very little flat, makes sense to use a normal Road bike.
Well, it was just my opinion. You can still climb on a TT bike. I was thinking more about the descents, where aerodynamics would come into play a lot more (if straight/long enough).

Obviously, people drop out, but why drop out the day before a TT, your speciality, where a stage victory is possible?

Well, I take it all back! Looks like I massively underestimated the ammount of lumps on that course!

Yeah - not a course to suit Cancellara at all !
  • Well i was very wrong and now will have to go into damage control with my PTP picks  looking like an exciting finish to this one.
