Has anyone been to Gisburn recently?
I ask as they were tree cutting last time i went and had a trail detour that went along by the brook ( just where you cross the brook twice), and it was almost impassible.
We want to go again next weekend but NOT if the diversion is still in place.
Anyone got any info please :D

It was rideable (just) last time I did that bit, but then the ground was frozen :? . Are you going to go searching for our hidden new bit

Can anyone tell me if it would be worth heading over to gisburn this weekend in terms of how much new stuff is open to ride?

Have done the old red trail but would like a bit more singletrack to make the journey worthwhile

Don't bother. The new stuff isn't open yet.

Yeah, need to keep off. There was a rut developing on the end of the new volunteer bit last weekend coming up to a sharp corner. It all needs to bed in and harden up. I wouldn't make a special trip yet.

Probably all open sometime in July.

    hi
i was going to go up there in the morning, just wondering is it worth it?

I have no intention to go over any of the newly built stuff but would like to do the red route., is it worth going, its only 20 miles from me.

I also have the option of the ouster rake path route as i pass it on my way to gisburn, and also the north face trail at grizedale (last option due to busyness of bank hol weekend)

    So, is it worth going?

    cheers

I'd avoid Saturday 13th June as it's the Gisburn Dirty Dozen 12 Hour enduro race.

For some stupid reason I've put my name dow for it as well :?

The Gisburn Dirty Dozen is a 12 hour mountain bike event which starts at 07:30 hrs Saturday morning and concludes at 19:30 hrs the same day. It takes place in Gisburn Forest, Bowland.
The event is open to solo riders, pairs and teams of 3

In that case, please post up your thoughts on the route and how hilly, steep and technical it is please?

Stillon for the end of this month, beginning of next. Most of it is pretty much complete, just needs sign posts etc erecting. Had a sneaky ride last weekened and it is pretty awesome, nice and techincal in places, huge berms in others (20ft high  )

  • It can't be far off being open.

I too had a sneaky ride round on Thursday, I say sneaky, I was up there all afternoon.
It's going to be excellent when it opens.
It's got fast swoopy bits, technical rocky bits, stretches of boarding and some of the tightest, twistiest single track you're likely to find! I did take some pics, so I'll post them if I get chance.
I clocked the loop at about 16 miles.

I know I shouldn't have been on the new bits, but the contractors seem to have done their job and the weather was dry so I hope I wasn't doing any damage.

    Awesome pics. Thanks.

I am new to the area and was thinking of heading out there on Monday when my children are in school. Any tips or suggestions for finding the new lines ? or do I just ride all the trails till I get distracted ?

And anyone care to join ? Would love some company.

  • Whalley665, the bit in that pic is highlighted by the turquoise ring on the map below.

It's not that clear from the map, but if you know GF then you should find it.
