RPCC Ride - 16th & 17th May

Phew, I'm knackered!

Right then, now that the Fred is out of the way I'm up for a ride this weekend for sure - will be nice to ride some 'normal' hills again!! Saturday is definitely my preference and might even try to do the KW club run on Sunday too... but I've said that before!

So, usual meet & ride plan:
 9am start is most likely,
although keep an eye out as earlier starts seem to be happening now
 Richmond Gate in Richmond Park, south side (on the left as you come up Sawyer's Hill / on the right if you come through Richmond Gate), by the little white building
 80-120k @ 24-28kph / 50-75 miles @ 15-18mph usually, but nobody gets dropped
 Boxhill is almost definite (as is a short tea / cake / toilet / bottle refill stop at the top - usually around 15-20mins)
As ever I'd like to emphasise that new faces are more than welcome and actively encouraged, and that applies to lurkers / long-time 'thread watchers' / any who haven't been able to make it along previously / those who don't want to commit on here but might feel like turning up on the day - please do join us if you want to! We seem to have seen a new face almost every week so it'd be good if that continued! :D

A collection point at Hampton Court will most likely be on the cards as that tends to be the route out. Please let us know if you plan to take this option - it's usually just a fly-by quick hello and on the move again so if you plan to use this option we need to know, and please be on time (although there can sometimes be delays getting moving at Richmond Park so there is the potential for us to be a little late coming through). Collection time there is likely to be around 20-30mins after the agreed RP start time so again, keep an eye out.

So, who is actually about this weekend and when? 8) :D

I'm thinking maybe a sunday CCC.

Will depend on me puting my bike back together after its been pimped though (8sp flippers finally gave out, so have upgraded to 10sp. I could never be described as a weight weeny with a bike like mine, but i've lost about 700grams just in the drive chain alone without a change in cranks).

Need to get some miles in and maybe a slight detour over Leith, Whitedown before hitting BH on th eway back , Dave Lloyd is not too far away now

I'll confirm back closer to the time on my intentions but wanted to put it out there for consideration. I reckon with a well working group we could average 30kph there and back..
It's the vibe of the thing.

I'm reliably informed that Phips & Al are planning a CCC run next weekend Mike so I'm going to join them for that - I don't think I've got it in me for this weekend!

And Wilf was talking about tagging a few of the hills on the way back on the CCC...so Mykee seems to be on the same mindset in adding BH/Leith etc on the way back.

I may not have the legs for all of it, although the Fray is looming. I think I am just going to go hit the Fray and hope for the best, with theconfidence it is downhill half of the route and RPCC new comer Jorge has taught me how to ask for the sweep wagon in Spanish :)

Out of curiousity, does anyone have the route for the CCC? I am curious... I may come out for part of the way and turn back...

I can post a link to the last route, but speaking to Phipsy over the weekend we discussed taking in Ditchling Beacon on the route south, and we could then include Pitch Hill, Leith Hill and others for the route north again... I have a few ideas!

Last route preview would be great Rich! 204kms, its going to hurt, I am not going to plan any nocturnal activites that evening then!

I'm not around that Bank holiday weekend. I'll be in Milan spending money on Italian carbon fibre :D

I also have a few sneaky ideas to get some extra hills in on the ccc run..

There is only one true Italian steed: De Rosa! (although I am toying with the idea of building a Wilier in Lampre livery as a project)

And their factory/HQ is in Milan. There you go, no excuses then!

Hi - not going to make the next few weekends, so on the downside will lose some fitness, on the upside I will be in sunny SA...

How did you guys do in the Fred? Saw RedGreenBaron afterwards shakily shovelling down some hot food, and think I saw you Rich just after you crossed the finish line. I was pretty happy but also dissapointed I couldnt have squeezed out an extra 2 mins to get sub-7hours. Started with work colleagues, but from A66 it became one long solo effort.

Didn't you just get a new bike? :? I was just going to get some new cranks which will shave another 300gms off my weight.

Well, yes... but I keep buying 56cm race frames which are ultimately too low at the front so I'm being measured to see what geometry I really need rather than guessing!

Unnofficially the QBH ride sponsored by Fray Bentos - I'm in that.

Talked about it with Al this weekend, needs to be 200+ with as many climbs as possible on the way back, emphasis has to be on endurance, good old fashion grit, determination and riding smarter rather than faster/harder.

Berns you HAVE to do this ride, what doesn't kill you will make you stronger, and by the time you ride to and from home it turns out at over 220km :P

Oh and BTW I won't be making an appearance this weekend, have the Etape in sunny Scotland.

    Hi,

I could definitely try to come along for that. Depends on how I feel this weekend. I've been trying to build up slowly.

For this weekend, it would be nice to do a 120km+ ride Saturday. But I am casting my vote for a 8am or even earlier start please, as it makes family obligations a bit easier to manage.

    Many thanks,
    Tolga

I can almost walk properly again today, huzzah. Good ride on Sunday, gotta love the Fred.

I'm up for a ride this weekend - will 'go with the flow' for the choice of day.

23rds CCC con colinas should be good - but we can discuss that after you sort this weekend's run...

Good luck to the Caley boys.

I am a maybe for this weekend. I am planning on doing the 110 miler that is the King of the Downs as a warm up for the Fray since I am not doing the Caley. I have until 7pm today to decide otherwise I am game for our usual run into Surrey on Saturday.

I am not fussed about the start time as I have a leave pass for the second consecutive weekend.

And Wilf...I think you have talked me into the CCC. The fear of the Fray has kicked in :)

just wanted to say that i've started a new job that is full on 24/7 traveling around the country for the next few months and any time off will probably be a million miles from london and my bike, so i wont be around for rpcc rides until late august. really enjoyed getting out with some of you guys and pushing my limits. when settled back in london again in the late summer i'll defo be up for some more punishment.

enjoy a safe and fit summer everyone :D

Hey Jorge, I signed up for it too! Are you doing the full or the half sportive? How/what time are you getting there? PM me with your private email

That said I am out this Saturday although I will do laps around RP with Dynamo's slow group as a leg loosener so may see you guys take off on my lap 2.

I probably won't be able to make it tomorrow due to family obligations, nice ride everyone. I'll probably come down to the park, do 3-4 laps very early and head back home by 10am.

So what is the roll call for tomorrow morning?

I am aiming to do a leg loosener ride tomorrow morning before KOTD on Sunday and hence may come out and ride out to the Hungry Hill Lane and back. Hopefully:

    a) the rain will stay away
    b) and not too tired from work tonight, thanks to an internal review done on one my clients I am painstakingly going through everything page by page

Is this just another one of those excuses to justify your 4th bike in 12 months Rich :)
