Left work at 7.30 yesterday and was eager to get home to meet a friend. The head wind was almost intolerable and my structural integrity was under immense stress so as I headed down Denmark Hill I diverted power from the warp core to the inertial dampeners. Turning left onto Camberwell New Road it was frighteningly empty so I punched a hole into subspace and tried out my new transwarp field – slower cadence at a higher gear - it lasted a few seconds when I hit a spatial anomaly (pot hole) and was cruelly thrown out of subspace and had to slow to impulse speed.

Turned on to Clapham road I simply used good old fashioned warp speed to tear along until the junction at Stockwell tube station. It was there I encountered a 2009 Allez. With the lights green I turned on the cloak and tailed him for a few meters until I saw an opening and de-cloaked, gave maximum power to the shields and fired phasers and a volley of photon and quantum torpedoes! Direct hit to his warp nacelles, he slowed and I overtook.

Loads of cars along Clapham High street, hitting one would have been too much for the shields let alone the deflector array so I ordered 5 seconds of impulse and navigated through the asteroid field with nothing but thrusters.

Through the debris at Clapham Common and nothing but open space it was warp 9 all the way home.

Once home I raced to meet my friend and we watched the new Star Trek film at the Wimbledon Imax! T’was awesome, nothing like and yet utterly respectful to Star Trek lore. Perfectly accessible to both the non Star Trek fan and the diehards! Ticked every box, even explained why the story differed to the histor! we already know about Star Trek. Overall it was just fun, couldn’t recommend it more.

But nothing and I mean nothing – considering that to this day still get tears when I watch Optimus Prime die in the animated movie – looked better than the trailer for Transformers 2!

Watchmen, Wolverine, Star Trek, Dragon Ball Z, Transformers 2 – I think it’s the year of the Geek!!! Yay me! :P

I had the misfortune of seeing Wolverine at the weekend. What a load of self indulgent cr@p that was. Dull characters, dull plot, dull backstory, dull dull dull. Liev Schreiber - you're better than that.

So Star Trek, if I disliked the TV shows will I enjoy the film?

    more than likely yes!

i quite liked wolverine but then it was just a bit of fun, so yes fairly cardboard simplistic stuff. but some times that can be fun.

A sad ballard plays heavy in my heart when I think of Wolverine. As a child I loved the badass anti-hero come troubled soul. He was awesome a good guy with knives for weapons that could only do evil. The question of whether Wolverine could truly be trusted was an ever present question in every comic I read during Chris Claremont's 10+ run on Uncanny and adjectiveless X-men.

But his popularity was his undoing, he is everywhere both in his two self titled series, Avengers, X-force and the often the other three X-men titles... what such a gret character has been reduced to is that pile of crap they call a film.

I didn't watch the Wolverine film, but any comic publicity is good.

If you like Sci-fi, action and humour then you'll like Star Trek.

Comic book geek prerogative. When you know exactly how Adamantium came to be (failed attempt to recreate the metal that formed Captain America's shield) and can use that knowledge to extrpolate roughly when Wolverine was given an Adamantium skeleton (1950s) and can remember where you were when Magneto pulled said metal from his body and when he found out he had bone claws (16-17 college). You can judge a comic film about your favourite character with impunity and arrogance to the point that you don't need to see it.

Anywho Star Trek is sheer awesome. Now all they need to do is hurry and release a Thor film because that would be beyond all previous levels of awesome, they'd have to invent a new word for awesome that meant awesome plus infinity or something.

It is what it is.... I dunno, ever since Nolan reinvigorated the Batman franchise there's little excuse for making shoddy comic book rip-off movies. Clearly they can be done properly. The Dark Knight is a great example of how good a "popcorn" movie can be, in comparison Wolverine was turgid fare. Schreiber and Jackman are fine actors and the film could have been better, instead it was spoilt by poor characterisation and poor plotting. The whole point of Superhero movies is that the "heroes" should engender at least some empathy. Wolverine inspires nothing more than apathy.

I've seen better things fall out of my hoop than Transformers.

It was like watching an incomprehensible 2 hour long ad for a Citroen loaded with dynamite.

Megan Fox, OTOH, is very easy on the eye.

Curious how close her name is to "mega fox". Coincidence? I think not.

I saw this on a plane when I was very very tired and have to say I only remember Megan Fox. Were there explosions in the film?

I thought Simon Pegg was really badly miscast as Scotty :( I really rate him as an actor but he just can't pull it off. Karl Urban as Bones however, absolutely stole the show! Incredible.

The special effects and a lot of the acting was amazing but the story really is very bad indeed.

Transformers as a switch-your-brain-off and enjoy type filmed ticked every box I think! :P

Bones was awesome. I also liked the new Spock. I felt that the new Kirk wasn't a good Kirk as I remember him but managed to 'get there' by the end of the film - it helped that it was a prequel.

The cool thing about Tron was that video games sort of looked like that at the time (pong, for example, or asteroids). How does it translate in 2010?

Next, they'll be making "The Black Hole II - out of the sphincter"
