Rant at mech hangers

Price is ridiculous though.
Agreed 1,000,000% about the price. HOWEVER.... If you don't get a FEW now (just take the hit. Yes, they are expensive for what they are, but in reality, it's still quite cheap!) cause when you break one, you'll still need a spare then. And if you sell your frame, simply include them with the frame, or keep them (if they'll fit your new frame!!)Boo-yah mofo

Mech hangers should have a spare sent with each bike/frame.The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

It seems slightly (very??) unfair, especially with the uber, boutique frames... The actuall cost of them at the manufacturer (no shipping, no 'extra' design / R&D, no advertising etc) is almost zero. Why can't they throw 2 in with the bike? Possibly 3 for a hardcore frame. It really is the little things that make alllllll the difference.
Especially considering some frames cost over £2,000. It's literally pennies the manufacturers are taking the hit for. Even at a £300 frame, you should at least get one!!!Boo-yah mofo

Mine snapped today 4 miles from the end of a 26 mile moorland marathon, should have replaced it a month ago when the rear mech snapped and went through the spokes during another marathon, hanger was bent, serves me right I guess. Still picked up a 'stificate a T shirt a puncture wound to the groin and a right knee sliced open though.

Ridiculous
Really? When I snapped my Commie hanger I got a replacement for £5 at my lbs.

I use the bolt thru one which is the same price, £20 @ Merlin too.
The only place I can find the maxle as a singular dropout is at the commencal shop:

25 euros but a 10 euro delivery charge.
I always carry a spare in camelback so swallowed the £200 -
I unpacked and built my bike at work where I had it delivered and was not sure if I had 'lost' the mech hanger in my excitement or if Evans had neglected to put it in the box so I just left it alone.
I recently bent my mech hanger and found that Pinnacle hangers were not listed on Evans so I filled out a contact form asking where I can buy one from. Three days later I have the mech hanger fall through my letterbox free of charge
God bless Evans and Pinnacle!0 -
well BETD have quoted me £300 to make one mech hanger for me!!! So ive resorted to a sheet of aluminium and im going to make 6 myself. May even sell them at £30 a pop for anyone elese who needs them and undercut BETD by 90%, but make some cash :]0

Glad I got a spare one with my Nicolai, god knows how much that'd cost to replace as they're all hand machined in Germany :shock:0

On the plus side, I will never need a replacement mech hanger. On the down side, if I break the one I've got I'm going to need to find me a welderUncompromising extremist0

I've found the folks at Piloto be good for replacement rear mech hangers. I can't do much about the price but they do have a big range of mech hangers and as they make them themselves they could be persuaded to do custom jobs.
Prices are in Euros so will fluctuate, lets hope that the pound rallies again.
Yes - they are in Israel so it takes a week or so for delivery, but for my last one I ordered it on Sunday and I got an e-mail the same day to say it was despatched. Also the rule is always carry a spare so you can fix the problem on the trail and then order a replacement for the spare when you get home.0 -
First time mine went was when building my Commencal. The mech kept clashing with the spokes regardless of how I tweeked the setup. I noticed the 'new' hanger was slightly bent so I tried to straighten it.........by hand, tut, tut. A little bit, a little bit more.........SNAP!! BU&&ER!! I thought it would cost a fiver. I thought wrong. £20 cheapest anywhere on the net.
I now have a universal one made out of stainless to get me home, so I only have to buy a new one, if and when it breaks and not before and regardless of what bike I'm on.Stuff we're working on........

tell me about it, i had to wait 3 weeks for a replacement for my felt!!!! then it cost me £22 for the privelige..... b@stards :evil:0

its not all that hard to make one for your self!
i had to resort to this when i got the carbon frame as it didnt have one! used a small bit of perspex to draw out the shape needed for the frame side and then cut it down ala dremel and then copied the lower section of the hanger on my other frame to make it up!
my neighbour worked on the skip wagons and was always finding good bits of metal and had a MAssive Sheet of chequer plate, he cut me off a foot swuare section for said bodgery!
i did have a picture of thenm side by side when i finally found outwhat hnger it was but seem to have lost it now! but was suprised at how close i got it!Timmo.

Why don't you start manufacturing and selling mech hangers for a reasonable price rather than sitting there moaning about the cost on the internet? If the market is there, and you can manufacture and sell them for a price that undercuts the "ripoff merchants" you'll immediately clean up and become a millionaire businessman.
You might THINK they cost nothing to manufacture and distribute, but the reality is very different I can assure you. Raw materials, design, manufacture, testing, packing, shipping, distribution, marketing, customer services, warranties etc all cost a considerable amount of money, even for the smallest and simplest part.
If someone could manufacture mech hangers and sell them for £5 don't you think they would have by now?0 -
O2, Patriot, 5, all have same hanger design so its not a issue for me,plus £14.63 is a steal compared to some of the prices ive seen on here0
