    DDD,

don't understand why you say the Kharma was faster and stiffer but the Willier accelerated easier - I thought stiffer frames transferred opower better with the cost that they tend to be less comfortable?

  • Ah right, I get you.

I must admit I didn’t take to the Mortirolo when I test rode it and that was the bike I was dreaming of for months.

Your post reminded me of the Euro Cyclist code of conduct where everything is based solely on feel and guided by sensations and instinct. Never accept tried or tested scientific methods...

Your weird sense of achievement... That will pass and the euphoria will fade when you realise cycling up hills is still hard work no matter what bike you’re on!

DDD - cheers for the advice. I will see if I can get a test somewhere. To be honest, it won't be a commuting bike, so, comfort is not required - the sucker is gonna race!

That's what I meant to say!

The Wilier Mortirolo felt like a great commuter part-time racer/sportive.

The Kharma felt like a professional sportive.

Depending on what if at all any bike the Kharma would be replacing you may want to consider a Kebel.... It's a little more race/triathlon breed.
I was gonna get a cheap Karbona frame from ebay, but the Kharma looks as though it has a full geometry - horizontal top tube, something I prefer. Never been a fan of compact or semi compact geometry as it can make the bike really twitchy.

I think your looking at the 07/08 Kharma:

This is the 09 Kharma - what I bought (still awaiting delivery)

It's a nice bike but if only there was some way of telling whether she uses carbon fibre monocoque technology.

I knew I'd seen the Kebel mentioned on here somewhere. Was in our new LBS the other day and came across one. Quite magnificent, Ultegra SL bits, and a price that's well within the new bike fund that's been accumulating and really ought to be spent before summer starts. Over a brief chat as an alternative to the Kebel I was pointed to the the Felt F3. It was ok, but didn't grab me like the Kuota did. I'm going back later this week with my shoes & kit on to have a go [on the Kebel].

Looks aren't everything, but it has all the kit. My default position at the minute is to get on with it and buy the Kebel. I suppose I ought to ask the usual questions first - anyone got any opinions of the Kebel, and are there better competitors for my dosh that I ought to at least consider?

Usage? 20+ miles commute 2-3 days per week, 50 - 100m weekend rides from time to time, riding it once to my mate's house so he can do it his 'how much? For a bike? Jeez that's light', just once tho . And taking the boy to school too. Might use the Scott for that instead.

    Kuota Kebel. Good, or superb?

I almost purchased a kharma this week ? - (been quoted 1650 for 105 easton ea 50 sl) - but wheels are in short stock at the moment !

I currently have a pinarello alu - which is very racey - the recent cycling weekly review puts the kharma in the stable but fast category - rather than dedicated racer - the kebel with its shorter wheel base is supposed to be more racey .........but it was the kharna that caufgt my eye first.....so I am pondering at the moment !!!!

Haven't read Cycling weekly but it sounds damn accurate.

Kharma = Stable but fast, very sportive aimed.

    Kebel = race orientated.

I saw a completely black Kharma at the Smithfield Noctunre. I dont know if it was an older model or not but in biking terms it had everything you'd want.

The kids said "dad we need a weeee.... noowww" so that was that for my oggling
    - just thought I would say it's a real looker
