Ok so most people name their cars (Mine is call James, dresses in black and is slightly battered and brused from the battles he has fought) but what about names for bikes.

So far we have Jeff. My new matt black Trek is called M (another Bond thing I know) and the road bike that I borrow when I go cycling with my RN friends is called The Commander (the guy who owns it is an RN commander so makes sense)

silly thread I know, but fun... :lol:

The Bighit is un-named (open to suggestions!) , I can't decide on a name for it/her

I never named my bikes. It's a bit sad really. None of my other bikes have names but for some reason I felt compelled to name my Kinesis. And I figured if I was going to be such a geek, I'd do it properly ie. a first and a last name.

She's called Lisa Aviette. Lisa because, well, she's blonde and just looked and felt like a Lisa, and Aviette meaning "heavier-than-air flying machine in which the motive power is furnished solely by the aviator."

My old bike (giant expression, first bike in adult years) she was called La Moo.
New one (custom built tourer) is called Charlie, after a cheetah. But I think he might get a surname after Spain, 3 weeks constant in the saddle with help me to tell more about a full name.
    "This area left purposefully blank"
Sign hung on my head everyday till noon.

    FCN: 11 (apparently)
  • My newest bike which unfortunately was stolen yesterday was called Bikey, (yes I know original)! :P

My oldest bike is called Old Gill because it just reminds me of the Simpsons Character -(Ahhh damn, I was only two miles from home and now I got a puncture, my owner is going to get rid of me for sure) (in the style of old Gill).

I tried calling mine the Tardinator, but it didn't really stick.

Steve is a good name for a bike, though.

I've never got round to naming by bikes, but I'm trying very hard not to think of my new Gary Fisher mtb as "Gary"...
  • My old trusty rusty Ridgeback Cyclone: Captain Sludgebucket, or "The Captain" for short.

My Swift Folder: "Jolene" as the Mrs. is rather jealous of her.

I don't I'm afraid, how dull... they're 'the tifosi' or 'the maxima' or 'the bowery'.

Jash had a big influence in my naming my first fixie 'gollum' though... :)

Best bike is called the Crack 'n' Fail. Old MTBer thing from when some Cannondale frames kept breaking. So, as it's an old Cannondale frame...

Second roadie is generally called something derogatory. Crapheap or something. Compared to the Crack 'n' Fail, it's crap.

MTB is called the muddy slut, because she loves getting dirty and being ridden hard and fast.

    I love my bikes me.

The Pinarello is known simply as "Il Principe"

    The others are nameless.

I assume that the Jeff you have on the first post is my Jeff...
I also have "White Lightning" My DMR Exalt in white.

You have to name your bike.... its the law.

Erm. For me, naming is mostly based on the manufacturer: 'the scott', 'the planet-x', 'the pearson' etc. The only deviation is my 'red and white hack'. It used to be 'the good bike' when my hack was also a peugoet. Unfortunately, its star has faded in the light reflected from carbon weave...

Embarassingly my love of LoTR dictated my naming policy

The commuter is Frodo - an utterly dependable, unglamorous friend that will never let you down

The Mad one is Legolas - Light on it's feet, lively as hell, and tougher than it's appearance would suggest.

I've never revealed this information before, but now it's in the public domain I can embrace my inner geek

Lit has a gollum, so, just out of interest, what would warrant a Gimli? Or a Boromir?

Good point, you've just prompted me to name the MTB, which has to be Gimli - it has the power to smash through anything and eats rock gardens for breakfast :lol:

My Roubaix Comp is called 'Ruby'.

The battered, rattly old single speed MTB homebuild frankenbike thing is called 'Stephen Roach'.
