+1 Giro Hex. I'm on my second. First one did it's job and sacrificed itself before my head got mangled. On that performance I found it difficult to pay money for anything else just in case it wasn't quite as good...0

another one for the hex.
I'm now on number 3, not too heavy, not too hot, and with my pointy skull doesn't look too stupid.
Fox flux is supposed to be similar, but easy to break.Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.
Who are you calling inbred?0 -
Giro Hex
Giro Xen

Specialized Stumpy Evo Carbon

Specialized FSRxc - XC Race Bike0 -
giro hex and zen are my personal fav's.
either that or get a FF - no mater how stupid you think you look, people won't be able to tell who you are0 -
The Giro's look funny, but like the Flux
My head is a ridiculous 62cm so most helmets wont fit :? my choices are fairly limited, although the MET stuff looks cheap on Winstanleys and they have a special XL range for the few of us with lots of brains to protect0 -

I'm getting my new mountain bike tomorrow and need a helmet. I tried about 50 (well about 8) helmets on the other day and every one looked huge on me despite being the right size.
It stuck out about 2 inches either side of my head.
That's the one I've got. As I said in a earlier post - it's a pisspot but with standard venting of a normal lid. Problem with normal posspots is they have an almost solid shell and get very hot when you are pedaling hard. Standard pisspots look like this: http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en ... a=N&tab=wi
The F-14 has a removable peak and it look best without it. I think the main reason pisspots look better than normal road/mtb lids is due to the extra protection at the sides and rear - it removes the 'pirched atop your head' sort of look.
Thanks for explaining what a "pisspot helmet was.
They look a little better judging by the pictures, although it's hard to tell if they would look any better on.
I received my new bike today (Trek 6500 which I got for £800).
I need a helmet, but I tried about 8 on the other day and they looked terrible. I'd like to say I don't care but I do. It looked like a big bowl balanced on top of my head with about 3 inches of plastic poking out everywhere.0 -

Maybe the Specialized Deviant? it's a vented full face rather than an XC lid with a face protector, so it'll probably be hotter than most but should still be less of a brain-oven than a regular full face.Uncompromising extremist0 -
Fox Fusion, p'pot lid made using XC methods, about half the weight of a Bell Faction.
