Is there a helmet which doesnt look [ok I wont use that word in case I offend!] rubbish?

Have looked through many....my current giro has a crack in it and I suspect falls into the category of "rubbish"

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Would also like to know this :D I only personally like pisspots, but I looked a bit odd in an XC race last week.

The only helmets which fits well, are ones at £100+

All helmets look good . . . . . . until you put them on.

Pisspots looks best I reckon so I went for THE Industries F-14. It is a pisspot style lid with the venting of a normal mtb/road lid. Looks great I reckon.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

I got a met kaos, looks ok.

I would rather look bad in a helmet, than good in a wheel chair dribbling saying...... TIMMMYYYY

I honestly like the way the Giro Xen looks... It's still a bit ugly but it's purposeful, designed ugly rather than the more typical ugly-by-default.

I was about to ask the very same question. I fully appreciate the purpose of helmets, and will wear one whatever it looks like, but if I can get one that doesn't make my head look like a mushroom I would be a happy man.

MET Falco, by the way. Got it on a VERY good deal. Realised why when I tried it on...

I just dont want to look like a big f******* satellite dish when I am out on a ride with my big expensive bike, expensive shorts and clothing...only to be let down by my helmet.

Still....I guess we have all been let down by our helmets at one time or another :wink:

I was going to suggest the THE one daz mentioned. I haven't seen it in the flesh, but it looks exactly what you're after. A regular xc lid with some extra protection down the back of the head. Looks the muts nuts in the photos i've seen.

Fox flux is also woth a look, similar design but a bit pricier.

    I HATE pisspots!

I just want a helmet as cool as the one that Josh Bender is wearing on that infamous drop......but without the motorcross look...and for XC!

Can someone post an example of a good "pisspot" helmet?

I'm getting my new mountain bike tomorrow and need a helmet. I tried about 50 (well about 8) helmets on the other day and every one looked huge on me despite being the right size.

It stuck out about 2 inches either side of my head.

I use a Bell Faction and will probably get a Ballistic in primer  Helemets will never look great unless there is ever a Simpson Bandit cycle lid 8)

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford?

    Haha, too true.

Ok, so I speak only for myself

Seriously though, the you tried the Specialized helmets? Mine has done me some miles. Looks ok too, and not too pricey (think about 70 quid, but it's for your brain, so well worth it if it works)

Had a couple crashes, but my head mircaulously has always avoided hitting the floor, so can't comment on performance.

You shoud try the BG range.

You never know, they might work for you!

I personally think the Giro Hex looks OK, which is one of the reasons why I bought one

That's the one I've got. As I said in a earlier post - it's a pisspot but with standard venting of a normal lid. Problem with normal posspots is they have an almost solid shell and get very hot when you are pedaling hard. Standard pisspots look like this: http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en ... a=N&tab=wi

The F-14 has a removable peak and it look best without it. I think the main reason pisspots look better than normal road/mtb lids is due to the extra protection at the sides and rear - it removes the 'pirched atop your head' sort of look.

Giro Hex is what I have. It looks fine. Dont really matter what they look like though. Its like saying your Air Bag in your car don't match the paint work. It irrelevant if its going to save your life.

Just find one that fits well and is comfortable, then buy the colour that matches your bike and you'll look about as good as it's possible to.
  • Well, I used to like my Scott Fuga, but then the Plastic Peak snapped after falling 2ft onto a carpeted floor and Scott will not cover it by warranty and said it's gonna cost £15 to replace  . For the proce of the helmet, I honestly expected better.

Looks like I'm gonna be one of those people who ride MTBs Peakless until I go get some superglue

another vote for the Hex here.

Going off on a tangent, is there any alternatives to the Met Parachute out there? Want just a bit more protection but think Full Face a bit overkill for me (and too hot as like to pedal back up my local trails)

I have a MET Veleno which I think looks pretty cool. Everything underneath the helmet looks crap, but the helmet itself looks cool. :)

ANY helmet that saves your life or prevents serious injury looks damn good to me.
