I haven't really watched him much since i was 19 - which suggests that he can't be interesting enough for me to bother iplayering.

Is he still just doing that 'what car' programme?

I think i saw the clip with leo & tim - that was quite cool.

Clarkson has to be controversial,it's his job. When he's being rude about the PM,people laugh.
When he's rude & making provocative remarks about cyclists, people loose all sense of perspective,& think he genuinely means everything he says.
    If he wasn't controversial,he wouldn't have an audience,& wouldn't have a job!
    so many cols,so little time!

Because he occasionally pokes fun at cyclists and some cyclists don't have a sense of humour. I believe some truck drivers don't like him for the same reason.

    Personally I think he's great.

Can be entertaining on TV, but is an arse in real life..... like when he threatened a kid on a beach for taking a pic of him, stole the camera and was generally a complete son of illegitimate means

He's a very high profile exponent of the Daily Mail view of the British motorist, with the sense of entitlement and self-importance that goes with it, and people lap it up. I daresay he's playing a part to a certain extent (and I think I've been surprised in a good way by some things he's said outside of his Top Gear persona) but I know plenty of people whose attitudes towards driving/transport seem to be lifted straight from TG and I don't think it's helpful.

I enjoy his programmes and I think he is funny, if you notice he does acknowledge the performance of people that beat him(marathon runner in London for instance) but my problem with him is that people take him too seriously and end up driving with the attitude he portrays. As far as I know he hasn't got a speeding ticket in this country for ages so his driving can't be all that bad.

Because he talks.... like this. Every sentence.... has a massive pause. Gets a bit annoying.... after a while.

He's funny . The complete master of the metaphor . Priceless . On Sundays' repeat of the muscle car bash across the western states to the Bonneville flats , he had me hurting with laughter .

He's got a great job and knows it

If That's the only reason people on this forum hate him, they need to lighten up a bit, most of the funny stuff he says about cyclists, truckers and 'traffic wombles' etc is pre written and is pretty funny anyways.

Someone on another forum I'm on described Top Gear as "the last bastion of gonzo journalism in any medium", which i liked.

    It's very entertaining.

I like Clarkson - he annoys a lot of self satisfied smug b**tards which suits me fine and he constantly take the p*ss out of the PC police - I thought the small Japanese 4 wheel drive hunt was hilarious :D:D:D:D:D

I don't have a problem with Clarkson, in fact I do find him quite entertaining on TV (his attempts at journalism, for over two decades, have been sh!te though). Top Gear is the only car programme I can watch.

What I do have a problem with is all the small-minded little-Englanders who say things like "That Clarkson, he talks a lot of sense. If he were Prime Minister, the country wouldn't be in the mess it is today, etc., etc., ". Don't these people realise that his TV persona is just for entertainment?

  • Besides the fact that Clarkson is hilariously funny, he is also very intelligent.

His books are well thought out and his character comes through in all of them.

I think cyclists as a breed are far too sensitive and also more than a little arrogant, which probably explains why a lot of them hate him so much.

    Just my 2 cents.

PS : I am also a cyclist, i just don't like the attitudes a lot of cyclists have.

He's like my Dad but 2 foot taller! Thinks he know everything like all Dad's. He has some strange views but its just for effect & should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Ref. hating cyclist? Didn't the Hampster win a race across London on a bike, while Clarkson bezzed up the Thames on a speedboat?

Yes he is annoying sometimes, but so am I.
