Bike Computers

Anyone got any tips for computers/heart rate monitors? Are they worth it?

I'm looking for I can use on the bike and running, possibly even being able to link it up to Gym CV equipment.

More high tech features the better - this one looks good on Wiggle: Polar CS300cad Wireless HRM Computer With Cadence (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Polar ... 360036966/).

Cheers in advance

I think some sort of computer is a must for any cyclist. Whether it's a basic model, so you can keep an eye on your distance & average speed, or one of the more complex models depends on the needs of the individual.

I have the Garmin Edge 305, which gives me heart rate & cadence as well as the basic features. The two things I really like about it are (1) the ability to race myself over any previous ride, using the course feature (you and your previous self appear as separate black & white cyclists, with details of how far ahead / behind you are) and (2) the ability to customise which information appears on the computer display.

On the negative side, the basic mapping software is poor.

If you are looking to use it for both Running and Cycling then you should look at some of the Polar models, the Suunto T6c or the newer Garmin 405 or 405cx.

Try here http://www.heartratemonitor.co.uk I've never used them but the site is a good source of info about the various models and their features.

Take a look at the Sigma range too. A lot of the same features as a Polar but much cheaper and also user servicable.

I have had 2 Sigmas now with no problems and just upgraded my older model to this one and am very happy with it

I use a seperate, standalone computer FWIW (a Cateye wirelwss Strada, which is very good)..
