Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but has anyone any experience of using the supplement CHONDROITIN? I have read somewhere it can relieve knee pain which I am starting to suffer from now I'm in my late fifties, though it usually seems to manifest itself when I'm walking, rather than cycling.

Not sure about Chondrotin - but I've heard that glucosamine has shown some efficacy (pain relief) in patients suffering from moderate to severe knee OA.0

I about have been using a glucosamine supplement for about 12-18 months now. From reading up on it, glocosamine works best with chondrotin as the chondrotin allows the glocosamine to be absorbed easier.
I don't think you would see immediate results to knee pain from taking these supplements, but they will help to ensure your joints continue to create fluid to support your movement. It is well worth taking them. You can get the supplements from Boots or Supermarkets. There are even joint supplements from Seven Sea's that include Omega 3 oil, but I tend to find they compromise the doses. I use a seperate Omega 3 supplement.0 -
Thanks for the replies, I'm nipping into Boots tomorrow to give it a go.' From the sharks in the penthouse,

My physio got me into Glucosamene Sulphate with Chondroitin and I think it made a minor improvement to my creaky knees. The cheapest place I found for tablets was a website called Nature's Best (?). The better stuff is the liquid but that gets pretty expensive. I guess you get what you pay for. Well worth trying though, whatever format you go for.0

Ive had a few knee pain problems over the years- you need about Glucosamine Sulphate1500mg of glucosamine to get an effect -it wont happen immediately it takes a few weeks- but certainly makes a difference.
There are also chondroitin supplements but these dont seem to work well unless they are taken with glucosamine sulphate anyway.0 -
Thanks all for the helpful replies, I'm going for glucosime/ chondroitin combined & will report back.' From the sharks in the penthouse,

As a runner as well as cyclist I have had my share of knee pain I take glucosamine and cod liver/omega 3 supplement.
Cheapest by far from zipvit.co.uk
Can't state that they are helping as I am taking a generally more sensible approach,Fixed, commute: Langster 08, FCN6

It's difficult to say if a remedy is helping unless you stop taking it for a period of time to see if the problem worsens.Tail end Charlie

just a quick update as promised. Have been taking the gluco/chondroitin for 4 weeks now and for the last 2 1/2 I have been free of pain ( even first thing in the morning ) so I would recommend anyone with a similar prob. to give it a try.' From the sharks in the penthouse,
