..like a girl trying to buy girl's cycling things

We have lots of cycling shops in and around here. And girls are welcome if they like buying and using naff kit

Pink cycling tops with useless pockets big enough for lipstick only
Cycling shorts which are just shorts with barely any padding and cut VERY short (yes, DDD I know what you are about to say)
A spectaular range of three saddles for road bikes - among all the shops that is

grrr
Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome

The same with the cycle shops down here.

My LBS know me well now and that when I go in for anything they dare not direct me to any of the 'female' range.

To be fair they have a bit of respect for the fact that I am not bothered by all the pink nonsense and just want something practical which does the job.

Oh come now, you can pick up all sorts of cool, girly stuff for bikes. There's those pink streamers that hang out of the end of your handlebars, little seats you can fit to the back of your bike so you can carry your dolly's around with you, plus you get to ride side-saddle so boys can't see your knickers.

Hmm I would agree on the whole and being, ahem, less than ample up top it is no problem there, but men's shorts? Not sure about that......

My LBS call me "trouble" already - have no idea why

    Seriously,

I think the lack of cycle clothing selection for women (in general) is unfair and only serves to prevent them indulging - in what could be a non-gender specific sport (as in women competing against men) - in cycling at all levels.

Of the selection that there is it is often shamelessly chauvinistic. Look at the Assos advert for women's bibs. I may laugh and joke about them but in that is the problem. They're not serious, it's not about the sport or benefit to cycling its selling nothing but sex and personally I think it cheapens and insults the intentions of the person buying them.

    Also:

Linsen, I can take real issues seriously, sometimes. Also you should go for the really short short shorts... tee hee hee....

have to admit I do wear mens shorts. But then with the fact that I'm breaking my legs in for a pit pony I do need a slightly more generous fit than the women's stuff allows.

As an act of allegiance to your cause, I shall wear only womens clothing next week - damn them all! C'mon Jarrow!!

*anyone have any size 9 heels and a bra for a 44" A cup chest*

In more serious news - you are absolutely right - My wife has had the same probs with fitness kit, rowing kit and so on - often resorts to my closet.

I usually hate taking orders. But I'll make an exception in this case. Always easy to find the Assos adverts in my CPlus - they're on the pages with the folded over corners!

But, ahem, of course it's shocking and sexist - like a 1970s motor show. Appalling and degrading.
Never be tempted to race against a Barclays Cycle Hire bike. If you do, there are only two outcomes. Of these, by far the better is that you now have the scalp of a Boris Bike.

It is pretty bloomin' woeful really. I get all excited when the wiggle newsletter comes my way with talk of clothing bargains, and there's naught but something pink for us ladies.

And we're not used to the lack of variety!

Yes, the normal ratio of 20:1 of female to male clothing shops, completely reversed when it comes to cycle gear.

You'd think they would have copped on by now and realise that the ladies need 10 of each kind everything, with bikes, shoes and (dare I mention it) helmets to match!
'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....

Yes, because James Bond rides a bike everywhere..........

I'm sure I saw recently that Topshop has started doing a line of cycle clothing, whilst I doubt it's gonna be any good it still might be worth a look........

Mrs JW has problems finding cycling and outdoor gear - can't think why manufacturers assume all women like pink gear which is totally useless in practical terms - maybe there's a marketing opportunity for someone here? Try telling this lot they can't get proper womens gear

I have a confession to make:

On the way home tonight I've just swung onto a cycle path and 100 yards in front of me someone else swung on from a side path.

I'm going a fair bit quicker and very soon catch up.

    Except.

She's in lycra shorts and has just got the cutest....

SCR be damned at this point. I was hooked :?

Decency forced me to go past but... but....

    Oh, behave!

See, I wondered about this. If some guy is hanging behind me, is it because I'm just sooooo fast and he's unable to overtake, or is he just getting a good look? Hmm.

    In my defence. ish.

I was out cycling one time through a village - uphill stretch but narrow and windy road so not suitable for over-taking. I'm aware of a car behind me so I stand on the pedals to get up the the hill more quickly.

I get onto the open straight stretch and the car doesn't overtake.

I carry on up and still the car is behind me. I sit up and look behind me and there's this woman driving behind me with this HUGE grin on her face!

I give her this   look and she smile at me and overtakes.

It was silly but very complimentary - I think the fact is: you're going to get good legs and a great bum as a cyclist, so you gotta deal with it
