do you wear black?

I just did something that I thought I would never do - I bought a black jacket. I don't like taking any risks and I usually get something bright & very visible - typically red to match my bike - but the black looked so nice and I went for it.

Does anyone else wear black? Am I living life on the edge or what?

I have a black jacket with bright yellow stripes down the sides and a black jersey. The jersey is generally only worn on my MTB, but the jacket is worn on road. It's never caused me a problem to be honest, if the light is a bit murky I'll be lit up like a Christmas tree and covered in other high viz anyway.

Black is a good choice for the (daylight) cyclist, quite a counter intuitive concept on the face of it.
However, it provides a lot of contrast, which when moving, lets the drivers eye do what it wants to naturally do, observe movement.

Most of my kit is black, but my summer jerseys are all in different colours, and my Gilet is gray.

But I do have white shoes, silver shoes and a bright white and orange Euskatel-Euskadi helmet.

black bib shorts,bib tights, baselayer, socks, skull cap, balaclava. blue jacket. as we all know white reflects heat while black does the opposite. dont forget the overshoes has to be black love stealth

Me too, but I only have the one bike at the mo. Someone mentioned contrast earlier. I coarse fished as a kid and remember that black tipped floats show up a hell of a lot better better on bight days.

I just tried my new jacket - it was perfect for the horrible conditions today. I had my lights on (and I have a white helmet) so didn't feel overly concerned about my visibility, plus I felt very slinky & cooooooool

Motorists give you no room whatever you wear. If you're in hi-viz the paramedics can find you in the hedge bottom more easily.

I wear black all the time (makes you look slimmer) why should we wear dayglo yellow and orange all the time plus when I last wore a bright red jacket I got knocked off by a car in broad daylight!!!

Most of my kit is black, apart from a Blue Assos Airblock Jacket and Yellow Intermediate jersey (it was on special offer in yellow). Oh and white shoes 8)

Black is fine for nighttime if you have reflectives and lights, and OK on sunny days.

When its dull though - its a really bad idea. My mate wears black head to toe and I rode past him on the other side of a dual carriageway on the usual Sunday morning ride. And I was looking out for him.

Just compare how far you spot a ninja cyclist ahead to one with a fluo jacket on. Absolutely no contest - I dont agree with Covec that its good contrast - at least not dull days its not.

I wear black a lot, although got a Northwave tatu ss jersey from santa, its black and white. i do feel like a ninja assasin when all in black, only thing is my overshoes and gilet have scotchlite piping on em so i light up in headlights.


Not many ninjas need reflective piping.

Especially when you are on a ninja mission.

I wear black.

On my bike in my cycling kit I'm in stealth mode now with a red stripe on eaither side of my shorts, I'll take a picture, I look cool now 8)

On my commute to college I wear a black jacket with dual go faster stripes either side, sadly it does not succeed in making me go faster..
