    My Goals were ;
    1 - Lose at least a stone
    2 - Get a 34 Waist
    3 - Do a 10 Mile Run

    So far , i've achieved one (the 10 Mile Run) . Having said that , i've lost half a stone since January (i'm 15st 3lbs) . Still a 36 Waist though

    1) Set aside spare dosh for a serious new bike in 2009
Opted for Plan B as the current roadie is actually great anyway, so spent a large amount having that refettled in January instead with new cogs, chain, bearings, cables etc etc. Still eyeing up the silly stuff (£3k+) in Corley's though.

    2) Commute as soon as there's enough light in the day to do it.
Hit this one - Feb 26th was the first proper commute this year.

    3) Commute on both days per week that I can do it [school run on other days].
Hit this one - twice a week since the end of Feb, and so far it's not been a problem - weather fine, if cold, wind is just another obstacle. Rain is wetness on the outside, not the inside. Over the school hols this will be 3 - 4 days per week. That's the goal.

    4) Shed some weight
Hovering at 14st, but convinced myself that it's fat turning to muscle, esp on the thighs. Hoy eat yer heart out next to my pins :)

    5) Beat prev years mileage
Easy. Since starting to log the commutes in mid-2005, the annual mileage shows as 304, 450, 720 & 1710. 2009 running tot = 489.
I'd beaten the 2005 total some weeks ago, beat 2006's last week and will knock 2007's off in a few more weeks, and it's only April. It helps being 20 miles away not 6 like the old job was pre-1710.

    6) Not do London - Brighton
What happened to road-awareness, manners, just knowing how to ride a bike for a few hours? The roads might be semi-closed, but you could still ride on the left rather than veering into my path as I come past you. And the oik last year who knocked me off at halfway and just p!ssed off without seeing how dead I was...Forget it.
And 17 hours from leaving to getting back home to do a 3 hour ride is just a waste of a day. Done it, got the t-shirt and sponsors hat thanks.

    7) Do a big ride
On the go - May 1st & 2nd, 85 miles each day from here to the seaside to meet up with the wife & boys. 40 miles is easy, will stretch to 50 on Sat / Sun this w/e to judge how successive days hurt, and build from there.

    8) Enjoy the ride
Bulls eye, now that I've got the journey to work in under the hour (20.78 miles, 59:58 on the clock...) that's that monkey off the back. 1h 12m? Who cares...

    3. That looks like a load of fun. How many of those have you done? I'm keen to get myself a Dahon Mu for that (although I am trying to convince the missus that we *really* need a folder around the house because they are super handy).
Just last year's (didn't have one folder in '07, let alone two!)- out in the first heat thanks in part to a chain drop (and in part due to being too slow!). A Mu SL won last year, one on eBay at the mo.
    Bad luck!

The missus has banned me from buying any more bikes for a while (until I finish my projects), but I'm trying to get an SL into the fleet on the basis that it isn't just for me, and that she can use it too on days when it will help to combine bike with public tx.
  • ITBoffin, good man, thanks for finding that link back to what I promised myself.

On re-reading it it it was typical of modern day speak. Say little but by implication you are rogered. Yes your honour I said 11.88miles in 35 minutes.

PB currently 38 mins 20 sec
    SB 39 ins 52 secs

and I was tonking it it to get the SB, how on God's green earth I am going to get 35 mins is .................................phew

I really was saying that in achieving a single goal I will lose weight, get fitter and generally have a better time cycling. Yes I love pootling at times but I like it best when I am giving it large.

OK Dec 31st aint far off, best start setting short term targets (the wind tonight didn't help!)

Back to the original question as to how one was doing regards one's goals

    Must try harder

PS: CJCP following on from the previous thread, I have not entered another Cat4 race yet, Must do this shortly. My plan this time will be to attack from the rear though
    [1]Ribble winter special
[2] Trek 5200 old style carbon
