Cadence, Road versus gym

At a recent training ride we were all discussing the maximum cadence for sprinting, we normally ride around 85 - 110rpm and someone thought 125 might be as fast as possible due to air resistance ect, but at the gym after a good warm up I raised the resistance to near max on a stairmaster recumbent with flat pedals and hit 166-175 for 30 second bursts, no more than 3 attempts however, the gym instructor thought it was impossible.
Anyone know what is the fastest recorded cadence on the road is?

I can get 300, but only if I count the revolutions from both pedals.

I can hit 150 pretty easily, and could probably go higher if I wanted to.
