Sheeps and SDK - lovely bikes you both have.

Hope to try and Enduro at some stage to see if it could help me be less of a gayer when descending at high speed (or in my case, tottering down like an old granny).

    cheers matt.

the enduro definately makes me feel braver and alot more confident on the downwardsbits but it really does pedal like an xc bike!!

plus, i think they look awesome.

thought id give an update on the bike, it now has its hope headset fitted and i found a cheapo stem in the house, 60mm by 10 deg and its ace, the previous stem was only 10mm longer but the change is very noticeable not least cause it is a bit broader across the bar clamp so there is less flex when im hauling on the bars.

i rode the bike in wales this week (i know i keep banging on about it!) and it was unbelievable, allowed me to plow through the rocky stuff and although for loads of folk this dumbs down the ride, for me it makes trails a blast.

the forks were the highlight of the show, they saved me from a couple of dodgy line choices, not least when i dropped my front wheel into a massive hole. the fork did whatever it is that it does and instead of being thrown over the bars, i rode straight over the offending trouble.

the dhx was ace as well in as much as i never noticed what it was upto, it just allowed me to pedal efficiently and to clumsily crash around all over the place, awesome

the wheels were rock solid and the tyres were as good as ive ridden. even the wet rocks didnt phase them and the grip seem everlasting.

    so my advice to everyone:

get longer travel, its proper ace
get some eskars, they are proper ace
dont talk about fight club, it is proper ace.
buy some rovals, they are especially ace. (but dont buy them for 500 quid as there are plenty of other options available for less money that will be plenty good)

    meh - same difference..... :D

You've just bought a Joplin, I wouldn't worry about a stem matey!

Why don't you opt for a shortish Thomson X4 stem? Lovely (I have had a few)

final update. got some early xmas pressies and decided to treat my bike to them early:

sunline v1 bar and stem. the stem is very short (40mm) but its really nice, it counteracts the slackness in the headangle and sharpens it all up. its only been round the local bit of woods but it all looks good so far.

Sheeps - I'm bumping this old thread :)

I'm possibly going to change the E150 and Spesh shock for a Lyrik Solo Air and Fox DHX 5 Air - pretty much the same as your setup.

    I have a few questions.
1: Does the Shock hit the frame when fully compressed?
2: Do I need to do anything special for the fork to fit into the headtube? I'm guessing just a new stem?
3: How is your setup going after a year?

    Thanks :)

the shock is completely clear of the frame when compressed, it has the same stroke and i2i as the afr which it replaced. i do have to remove the top bolt to swing it free of the rocker to top the air up though as the valve is too close to the rocker to screw the pump on. it doesnt bother me as i only do it once in a blue moon but its worth considering

all you need for the fork to fit is a new stem and whatever spacers you want

the set up is still spot on although ive probably only done 200 miles on it since it was put into this configuration (i hadnt ridden it between october and the start of march  ) it feels slacker than the e150 setup but i really like that

    hope this helps.

Cool - thanks for the info.

What headset and stem did you go with?
I'm also guessing the extra push in hubs that come with the Roval wheels fit the Maxle Lite?

i have a hope headset, it is very cool, pricey, but i love how it is made

stem wise, i have fitted a sunline v-one in 45mm flavour to hold my sunline v-one bars in 710 flavour.

the adapters do fit the maxle, pretty convenient eh :)

it really is good, i ride pretty easy terrain and am very much a wheels on the ground kind of guy but i love the kind of ride you can have on it, even more simple stuff is ace fun on it yet when it gets a bit rocky or slippy or steep (up or down), its a brilliant bit of kit.

    heres some more of it.

    Looking good :)

What cable ties are you using on the bottom tube?
  • Anonymous
    Anonymous Posts: 79,667
i used small white cable ties to connect the joplin cable to one of the cables already clipped onto the bottom tube. seems the tidiest way to do it, i had tried a set of cable ties along the top tube but it looked webbo.

    Thanks

it is a large, im 6 ft 1 and it fits me fine, the top tube feels very short so i would say a large would fit you fine (i also have a 32 inch leg)
