moaning bout being a student and how hard life is gets my goat a bit, students choose their life and for the most part, have it paid for by tax payers. wonder how hard they will moan when they have to do full days of graft (in a field not relating to the subject ive just paid for them to learn)
Yeah i wish i could have the time to get drunk and party all the time, but there just isn't the time. Makes me laugh people who do pointless courses and then moan that Uni is turd.
Hopefully i get my place back at Uni tho, wish me luck for thursday0 -

yeah good luck. i can empathise with your position as my wife had some unfortunate absence during the vital months of her course but managed to catch up and all tht so all ended up well in the end.
it would take a much better person than me to even contemplate a career like nursing.0 -

Wish I'd had some money to go travelling or even just a short holiday when I finished.
Uni finished on the Friday, I moved down to Essex on the Saturday and started work on the Monday. Figure the next proper break is when I retire!"The problem was, I was still using my eyes even though I had them shut"

See thats what I really don't want to do
I've got quite a few career options open to me when I finish, but all of them are pretty much final, with no way of getting to see the world.
It was my GF that opened my eyes and I realised that I have the best opportunity to do it now rather than later0 -
It depends on the course and university, the number of hours you study. My Uni is very strict on attendance, I'm doing Comp-sci and we do 18 hours+ with half of that in the labs.0

I did do a "proper" degree at a "proper" uni (Materials Engineering at Swansea) but was easily distracted. I think degrees suit some and not others - mine has certainly helped me a number of times with work/jobs even though I've hardly used the content.
Just shows you have a bit of a brain. However I don't think any lesser (or more) of those without one - who cares? As long as you are happy.0 -

same.
I did actually start an apprenticeship before I went to Uni.. I basically had a year out after my A-levels, but found it didn't suit me. I then had the opportunity to go to Uni so I took it.
The reason I want to go away after Uni for 6 months (as pretty much the majority of students I know want to do) is because it so much easier to do before you settle down into anything.
the reason my course has little content atm is because last semester I was doing 5 Modules. One of the is worth 30 credits (effectively 2 modules in 1). that means i've been left with only doing 2 modules this semester.
Not once have I said Uni or my course was easy. I was complaining because I expected more of a single lecture.
Anyone saying/thinking its easy can eat sh*t. Its not.0 -

theres a difference between being busy and hard work. listening to some lectures and writing some words isnt hard work, i can imagine it occupies alot of students time, but it not the same as working in a mine or cleaning windows all day.
dont get me wrong, i know there is huge value in university learning. the doctor who will one day sort out my prostate problems and the next lawyer to represent me in court will have been to uni and i will be grateful. but come on, hard work? bollock$0 -
well your comparing education to work/jobs....of course there will be a difference you plank.
however saying its not hard work is very stereotypical of someone thats obviously not experienced uni.0 -
Sheeps - I've done a degree and I've also done site/demolition and farm labouring. One is mentally tough, the others are physically hard. But although different, both are hard in there own ways. A good degree, Masters or pHd certainly aren't in the slightest bit easy and I have the same respect for those who excel in further education as those who work very hard physically.0

"today, we're reading a journal"..... oooooookkkkk?!
It wasn't a hard journal to read, nor was it very informative (as the lecturer found out when we picked holes in it).... 1 hour in and I practically walked out.
I could have read the journal on my own in around 15mins, made some notes and understood it better. (something I do anyways).
next week's lecture is also cancelled.
This whole University thing is starting to really get to me now.... my lecturers are a bunch of retards.
[/rant]
One thing - it's more a waste of 'your' money or your parents money than the taxpayers. Although I guess that doesn't help! Tax payers do contribute to Unis but it's much less than in the past and much of that Tax payers money goes on research - not funding your average student....but that's not your point I guess.
It doesn't sound like a great lecture I must say but no doubt the lecturer was trying to develop some sort of transferrable academic skill (a good critique isn't that easy) - you could always ask him/her? If you are really annoyed you should be able to feedback through student/staff committees or the national student satisfaction survey.
I'm not sure why some people (not you) slag off Unis, courses or students - I mean, if people want to pay for and study a subject then who gets hurt? It's a good thing PLUS there aren't any jobs now anyway! Masters maybe?'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0 -
masters is sounding more inviting by the minute!
Its been terrible this week,
cancelled lecture on tuesday because the lecturer (that is never there anyway) is ill.
cancelled on wednesday because a visiting lecturer "couldn't make it".
today we had a "talk" from a lovely old man that had had heart and cardiovascular problems in his 40's (the guy was about 75 now). the lecture was supposed to be "the experiences of a cardiac patient" however he reaaaaaalllyy went off on one... never even told us what condition he had, let alone his experiences!!
ohh well gives me more time to concentrate on my dissertation i suppose.0 -
Hmmm....Easter soon!'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0

yaaaay... not
Means i've only got 2 weeks for my work to be in
On the other hand, i thought it was in on the 20th, but its not till the 27th which is always good
Off into uni tomorrow for a nice big stats session0 -
Enjoy it - no really the weather l  ks aweful.
The news reader said - hail storms and a spell of frosty weather will announce the arrival of summer - this is looking familliar
On a brighter note, my brother is back from uni tomorrow and were going for a celebratery dinner 8)
Plus I have a three week easter holiday starting today, although GCSE revision will no doubt show its faceNow that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -
well, another great week at uni...
1 lecture.
the one tomorrow is just about an essay that i've already done, had checked and handed in = no point in going.
Got one on wednesday (i'm assuming - will check later)
and for no apparent reason, I have no lecture scheduled for friday.
On a lighter note,
1 essay down
finishing an essay tomorrow
found a journal that i've been after for ages (its in german, but i've finally found a translated version) so I can now finish my dissertation much more easily. Should hopefully be done in the next 2 weeks (not in for 5 weeks).
And then i've just got 2 5mins powerpoint presentations to do, and a 1000 word essay and my exams in may/june.
Happy days.0 -
I'm afraid that I fall into the "stop whinging and get a grip" camp.
I didn't go to university. Never wanted to and still don't now, 20 years after I left school because I couldn't be arsed with my A-levels.
I actually wanted a job - I did a modern apprenticeship which allowed me to gain useful working skills at the same time as getting a qualification.
Never looked back...0 -
Who's winging?! :? that post was I "ner ner i've got feck all to do" post, athough reading it, it sounds quite depresing
Was in a management apprenticeship before uni, but decided I'd rather go to uni... found it boring
Still not ready to get a job, no idea what I want to do :evil:0 -
BigBen - nor did I and had about 455526264 jobs before co-running a PR company. A job which is very flexible, well paid and really enjoyable.
I almost never use my degree but it helped me get jobs where I got great experience. Stick at it!0 -
Yes Big Ben, Uni. opened a lot of doors for me too; it was useful. Then again I could say that about experience I gained through 'working my way up' too. A degree helps but you'll still need some practical experience. Personally I enjoyed the reading & writing at Uni., that's why did it. You'll look back and laugh one day!....God I sound like my Dad.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0
