Does anyone know if these Avid levers

work with these road brakes? (must be these brakes as they're the only ones I can get to fit my 27" wheeled bike)

Just need to double check before I spend some cash.

They'll work, but not well. The cable is different to what is required. I can't remember exactly if the levers pull too little cable or too much, but I have a vague memory that it's too much, meaning that the wheels will lock up very easily, which would send you over the bars easily. you want some of the levers designed for flat bar road bikes, such as Shimano Nexave.

dammit, I hate Shimano levers

I had a nagging feeling that the cable pull might be different.

    Back to the drawing board....

I can only use the R556 brakes as in my 1st post on this bike, it's a '78 Falcon road bike with flat 23.8mm dia bars (which I was also going to swap ) , so back to the drawing board.

I'm gonna get the R556's & use them with the crappy Weinmann levers I have at the mo.

You need Tektro RL720 levers. These come in a 24mm clamp and will pull calipers or canti's.
