Hi,

Just as the header asks, I have recently moved to an Apple Mac and my Excel spreadsheet logging all my rides does not work :(

I do not have the skill set needed to produce such an item myself, so if some kind soul has something they use please let me know.

I have the numbers software on the pooter so that format would be great.

Cheers

  • if you have numbers, then your excel sheet will / should work. however you can just use numbers to make an excel style sheet quite easily in numbers as it doesn't have the complexity of excel

cost though, (£20 or something) but excellent; more friendly and usable than sporttracks (which i used to use, running inside parrallels)

ditch the mac and get a pc. stuff just works with a pc.

sorry - but I really get annoyed when mac users bang on about 'they just work without any hassle, unlike pcs' when in reality you can't connect huge numbers of devices and there is frick all software for them.

but hey, they look nice and the recent price rise was only 25% on list. and they're only 2-3 times the price of an equivalent pc based product.

  • yeah i'll get a pc, then anti virus software which must be updated daily, then the firewall software or i will stick with a mac for which there are still no virus'. oh no i won't i will just get a mac instead, quicker, in the three years i've had this one i have never ever had to reboot it, can a pc user say that? er no coz a pc is pretty useless after 3 years coz it's all bogged down with constant software updates and security up dates. my mac office 2004 suite, which by the way apple designed then sold to microsoft, cost me less than £80 and i got 3 licenses. er how much is it for windows?

so get used to it, macs are quicker more secure and very pretty too

I've never had to reboot my PC, don't run anti virus software etc.

Not all PCs run Windows remember.

Macs are waaaaay better than boring old Pee sees man, they carry 1001 viruses and just aren't reliable. Every version of windoze have been a complete fcuk-up. Apple leads the way.

Mac's a def cool but Ubuntu rules
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

+1 for Ascent. One of the most useful bits of training/logging software out there IMO.

  • If you have an intel Mac don't forget that you can also run Windows programs via Bootcamp, or Unix programs directly under OSX via Apple's X11. (OSX is effectively just a GUI than runs on Unix).

should I get rid of my computrainer, stop using wko+ and buy a satellite receiver cause my pc won't do that?

if you're running a broadband connection without a firewall and no antivirus software then don't get too smug. There are hundreds of vulnerabilities out there on most unix variants that worms and botnets exploit. Not suprisingly this includes the Mac.

    Openoffice is free.

I've just started using Rubitrack on my mac - not free (about £20) but great and the developer's realyl responsive - usually if you ask for a feature he's added it within a day or two.
may the dawes be with you...

There are quite a lot of online training logs. I'm using http://www.dailymile.com at the moment which I'm quite pleased with.

Hey, I wrote that program! You can download the free Excel-based training log at http://www.ProLogCycling.com . The 2009 Standard Edition is free. The 2009 Premium Edition has many more bells and whistles and is $10. The Premium Edition allows you to change format to metric. Both versions are released for Mac and PC :-)

    Ride on!
