no fitness

I have found that i am not getting any fitter this year where as before i found that with very little training i could do a hundred miles easy.It is not just a problem with cycling i play 5 a side football and normally after a few weeks i am fine but this year the fitness is not there.Any ideas.

    Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos
  • To gain fitness you need to keep providing a stimulus beyond the level at which you have reached. If you don't then the body won't adapt further.
  • Yep, all true. In addition when you are a bit fitter two things happen in the future:

    a). You lose a bit of fitness and you really notice it when you try and do something that you did before that you thought was previously comfortable. Of course it wasn't comfortable, but you could do it and now it feels hard!

    b) You don't lose fitness but you've adjusted your mindset so that your current level is 'normal' and getting 'fitter' is now harder 'cos you've got to do more than you did before.....this feels hard.

    Also there is the 'going upstairs' effect - climbing 8 flights of stairs is always knackering, as you get fitter you go faster for the same amount of pain........
