Cycling clubs in Bristol

Hi all,

Me again,

I am looking for a cycling club in Bristol which I can join in order to get my fitness up a bit and maybe do a bit of racing later in the year (fitness allowing).

I have entered the Dragon Ride as a goal to aim for this year (see other thread in training forum) but would also like to maybe structure my weekend rides and ride with others who will push me a bit.

I suppose I am classed as a beginner fitness wise, but have been a member of a club many moons ago (Cardiff Ajax) so have ridden in groups and have an idea of etiquete etc. The biggest thing for me is to ride in a group where I can keep up and not feel embarressed in holding anyone else up.

Can anyone recommend a decent club with weekend rides and maybe a club night etc?

Thanks

JesseD

I used to live in Bristol and can't speak highly enough of the BAD Tri folks. They have huge numbers of people turning up fo their Saturday rides, lots of different groups depending and what pace and distance you fancy, and they are a very friendly and welcoming lot.

As far as road clubs go, there is Severn Road Club and Bristol South CC. I don't know that much about them but I'm sure they'll fit the bill as well.

All the clubs in Bristol are OK and all talk to each other too!
    Bristol RC
    Bristol South
Severn RC are all OK Cycling Clubs
There are also various on the outside of Bristol too as well as the Uni clubs
Bad Tri are good for triathletes
A few sponsored teams - Dream CC are about the best and non clique forming

I'm from the Bristol area to and was thinking of
Joining the Bristol Ctc club. Although a few of their rides are scattered all over the place.

Where abouts are you? Could always meet up for a leisurely ride and compare routes.
  • If it helps, I suspect Bristol South are probably the largest club, certainly from a racing point of view. Many faces at S Wales TT events, and several velodrome addicts too.
