Buying Advice but have to use Evans

Ok well I have posted one a min ago and it dissapeard.

Anyway, I need to order from Evans as Ill be using the ride to work scheme, I already have a bike I ride to work so want something that I can take on the trails, I wont really be doing any DH so doubt Ill need full suspension.

Thing is there is so much choice I barely know where to start, Ill be spending £600-£800 and was mainly just look at sales but someone else may be able to push me in the right direction

Really? I have not seen that anywhere, thing is it doesnt make any difference to Evans as they still get the same amount of money so thats why I was pretty sure sales bikes count as well.

Sale bikes are included in the RTW scheme, it even says so on the web site.

With Evans, you need to know exactly what you want to buy before you go in, as you'll get little or no help from the staff.

Woking Evans was utterly abysmal 2-3 years ago, but have got much much better recently.

I think you'll get more with the reduced Genesis Core 30 that llamafarmer suggested.

Yeah I was thinking the same, if something has been reduced £100 plus then I reckon its got to be a good deal, Ill give it another week or so and see if anyone else gives me some good ideas.

I've essentially got £1k to spend but want to buy some decent lights etc as well.

I just got my r2w bike from Evans and can confirm all sale prices were honoured. Bike was reduced by some £300, accessories and clothing were also reduced. Saved a lot of money, and have to say that I really like the staff in the Fenchurch St. London branch - always been very good to me.

just a thought but is there another reason you need to use evans for the RTW scheme there are other firms that do this ?

My company have it all set up thruogh evans so not really my choice, if I had the choice Id use wiggle to be honest.

I would say no to the paragon and mongoose teocali elite, tje paragon only has an 80mm front shock and the teocola from what i can see has too much travel unless you do alot of dowhill stuff its not really worth the sacrafice of speed on the flats, but the felt and ferrous are well worth the extra money imo so go for it!

Do you need any kit? Helmet, lights, waterproof stuff, gloves, shorts? You could spend £250 in a heartbeat, so might be worth buying a cheaper bike and spending the rest on the gear that will help you enjoy riding it.

I have most of my kit, I do need some decent lights so was going to spend up to about £150 on those as they have some sale kit.

I`d still go for the Core 40 myself ,especially as its a versatile bike.Felt spc isn`t any better and has less travel,and nice as the Ferrous is I stillI prefer 26ers to 29ers.

As The Spiderman said, stick with 26" wheels. So neither of those Gary Fisher's.

The Felt and the Mongoose are ok, but take the Mongoose only if you planing of taking
some 2-3ft drops. For mostly flat the lighter Felt should be better.

Two similar to the Felt:
Genesis Altitude 10 2009, with a Recon U-fork.
Specialized Rockhopper Pro Disc 2009, with Reba, but 80mm of travel.

Thanks for the help guys, I guess now I decide if I like the core 40 (orange????) or the felt or just go back for the core 30.

I have been looking at the bikes in the same price bracket and have decided on the Core 30. its the same frame as the 40 but some of the components aren't as good obviously. I didnt see the point in spending the extra for the 40 for the riding I do and can always upgrade in a couple of years if needs be but for the price I think the 30 will be more than enough for what i need it for. Have to ask your self are you just buying the more expensive bike because you need it or just because the vouchers are burning a hole in your pocket.

It's not that bad, when you put some orange gips, pedals, qr skewers, valve caps,
maybe rims. It's all in the details.

I am thinking of speaking to the guys at evans and seeing if they will swap the frame with the Core 30 as its same frame, why oh why do they only do bright orange!

For 30£ more you have the Altitude 10, but with a bit lower spec, because it's a 2009 bike.
And it has a nice red colour frame.
Just make sure that it has the Motion control sticker on the 335 fork.

The Motion control on Altitude 10, the 351 on the Core 40 definitely has.

But after seeing the Altitude again, it has the same spec as the Core 30, so not worthed.
If you're worried about the paint, then go for the Core 30, you'll have 150£ more to
upgrade on it what ever you don't like it.

IM going to just go for the Core 40 in orange I think, its not that gay really... its flamboyant

And at least people will be able to find me in the woods when I crash!
