iain_j - Have you ever been to Hoylake. That's a nice place to ride0

Not that I recall. I tend to jump on the train to say, Chester to go out to the Welsh hills, or Preston to explore Bowland. Really ought to spend some time exploring the local lanes!0

Lovely pics. The Delamere pics were nice - have you been to Summertrees and then take a left out of the cafe - great views over the hills from there.

holmeboy, my guess is Dumfries and Galloway / Scottish Borders, around Langholm, Tala, Sami Ling, perhaps.
Do I get a prize?0 -
One of my regular routes contains a couple of level crossings. Sod's law this time said the gates were shut and so I patiently waited. After the gates were raised this family of ducks proceeded across the rails, round the corner and into a nearby garden. As my mobile was in my back pocket they were across before I could photo them on the crossing.

Yep, all taken in the Border's, if you love cycling you'll LOVE cycling in the Borders.
Samye Ling Budest Monastery, Esk Valley
Hugh MacDiarmid Memorial, Langholm and
Tushielaw in "Border Lands".
Recommend eating at cafe at the Monastery and at Tushielaw. 8)0 -
Samye Ling is a good place to fill up your water bottles if you're heading through the borders. I've even booked a room there on a couple of occasions, although it has to be said that the food is strictly for the confirmed vegetarian with vegan tendencies!
It's used as a control stop for some of the longer audaxes, including London-Edinburgh-London.
a serious case of small cogs0
