1 litre Weldlite Bikewash - £1.80

450ml can TF2 Spray Lube - £2.24

I feel kinda bad about not going to the lbs for this stuff, but at these prices I really cant justify going anywhere but tesco these days.

Can't stand lining tescos pockets I'm afraid, so it's the bike shop for me
  • Which tesco do you shop at?! My local one is pretty big but I can never find anything useful :(

  • I HATE Tesco, they put everyone out of business and give nothing back to the country by banking offshore  (that's what I was told anyway)
  • i feel better buying from my lbs, so thats what i normally do, unless its stuff like home products for cleaning my bike or cheap stuff which they don't sell

the one at silverburn. its pretty huge. I can buy a pineapple, a washing machine, a horse care kit and a trampoline there if I wanted too.

a lot of thier own brand bike kit is caca, but they undercut on brand stuff to the point where its almost free.
  • :?: :?: :?: Go on then Jesus! Explain what you would do with a pineapple, a washing machine, a horse care kit and a trampoline! :?: :?: :?: :?

If tesco were selling something for £1 that my LBS sold for a tenner I would still go to my local bike shop and buy it.

It doesn't make economical sense but are tesco going to get me a new fork or wheelset the next time i need one?

And there is nothing on earth that would make me get my ride serviced at a supermarket!!!

But Andy at my LBS would look after me 100% guaranteed!!

I hope he doesn't start stocking groceries though. I'd draw the line at buying baked beans or fairy liquid and toilet rolls from him as I'm sure he wouldn't be able to compete with any of the big supermarkets.

I wouldn't. That is a big saving. If there wasn't much in the price, maybe, but I'm skint, and bike shops will still survive where people need to test stuff and have their bikes serviced. I would pay the extra if I tested and viewed a product in a bike shop as I am using their facilities. However I know what tubes look like!

And it's so full of salt that it will take the finish off your paint. It's designed to get food muck off plates, not trail muck off bikes. Bike wash costs more for a reason - it's designed for the job.

It doesn't take paint of lol, is a myth, but the salt can corrode alloy and steel parts if not washed off properly.

but they also create alot of job in the UK. each of those massive stores employ around 100 staffs if not more.

    Bobbins.

I've never once got a different result using specially created "wash" from using washing up liquid. And that goes for cars, motorbikes and pushbikes. Still waiting for my car windows to fall out after twenty years...

I bought a set of bike lock and lighrs from tesco and the bike lock is broken already and never got the chance to use it!

  • Puncture repair kits are about 96p in Wilkinsons - Who are also the cheapest in town for Pick & Mix too -1/3rd of the price so we always pop in their before we go to the pictures :D

If washing up liquid is soo bad why do Mojo adivse that you wash down a newly fitted fox shox with "Warm soappy water" prior to setting it up correctly and going for your first ride :?:
  • 8 quid for a litre of concentrated Fenwicks....makes 8 litres when watered down.

Now if my math is correct I make that £1 a litre....so LBS for me to.

Unless JC's bikewash is also concentrated.

  • Its thin end of the wedge.

The more customers Tesco can get in buying bike products the less we will see local bike shops.

Where there is a lack of competition, Tescos can squeeze their suppliers for every penny they can get away with, some of it is passed onto the customer, but most goes into their pockets. Recent reports say that latest profit figures have gone up to 2.8 billion per year.

Profit for tescos, is the be all and end all. This cant be good for the bike industry.

Its only a very small selection of bits that they do. I guess mostly aimed at the novice who happens to be in the shop.

I can't see them bankrupting LBs just because of a few cheap tubes and cleaners.
