I really like his presentation. I found during the Tour of Cal that there was FAR more detailed explanation of why riders were doing what they were i.e. a rider going off the front to soak up the points to reduce anothers chances of the points jersey etc. O.K some of it may be obvious but a number of times I found it really enlightening compared to previous commentators. I found the pairing worked as well and I like the occasional humour. Keep it up.

Quite, it's sometimes obvious what is happening but the commentators would still struggle to even name the riders at times, yet alone what they were doing. I know it is a hard job but that's no excuse for making mistakes, a brain surgeon won't say "look it's hard, I'll lose a few patients a day", a truck driver won't say "I'll take a few wrong turns or maybe have a few crashes", so even if something is tough, it should be done properly. Brian is doing a great job.
  • Hi folks.

I liked the way Brian kept winding David up. He'd make some stupid joke which DH obviously didn't find that funny, then he'd just keep it going for another 10 minutes... I was waiting for it to come to blows.

Remember a couple of years ago when Duffield would spent 20 minutes telling a long and involved story about one of Sean Kelly's exploits, then turn to Sean and ask him if he remembered that descent of the Poggio. Sean would give a one word answer then not say anything for another half hour...

    Cheers, Andy

ps Brian does a lot for cycling and Scottish Cycling in particular and is much appreciated. He is the driver behind the braveheart cycling fund (scottish equivalent of the Dave Rayner fund).

A big thumbs-up for me. I've always liked David Harman's commentary, and am very glad BS has joined Eurosport from cycling.tv. I'm looking forward to more of them, as well as Magnus & others.

I liked Brian S commentary on the TOC. I would like to hear more from him but not at the expense of having less of Sean Kelly. I know he irritates people but he is not often wrong when predicting how events during the stages will unfold.

  • Yeah Kelly rocks! BS was quite good but hes got a scottish whingers twang which comes out quite strongly sometimes. Kelly on the other hand is Kelly and ive never heard a whinge come from him ever.

I thought the scottish whine decreased once hed settled in a bit though.

Interesting commentary from Brian but why did Harmon keep saying United States of America everytime he listed the riders???????????????

I am convinced that Kelly was emplyed solely to mumble "Oi don't tink sho David" at regular intervals just to rein the old boy in. On occasion where Duffers had strung together some grand unifying theory, which Kelly would puncture with a few well chosen words and then silence, this was comic gold.
