does anyone ever see famous cyclists while out training . i live in cheshire and often see riders out in GB kit . while out on a 2 hour ride around knutsford yesterday i passed (going the opposite way) 2 riders , one in GB kit and one in barlowworld kit. pretty sure the barlowworld cyclist was geraint thomas. for some reason my pace picked up a bit for the rest of the ride .

Fatboy Slim used to ride past my house on a regular basis when I lived in Hove. I also saw Mick Hucknall from Simply Red gunning it down across a set of traffic lights in Manchester town centre, sheepskin coat and ginger ringlets waving in the breeze...Head Hands Heart Lungs Legs0

a work mate told me last week that robbie williams has been seen out cycling on a nice new bianchi bike .0

Briefly met Alexi Sayle once in a cafe near Bedford.
'Hey, who's that fat bastard?'
He was on a bike with two blokes and was wearing some tracksuit bottoms that were way too small. 8)AT MY AGE, I SHOULD KNOW BETTER !!!0 -

Were they part of a circus act0 -
Mark Webber lives next door to my dad and see him out on his roadie from time to time !0

Chris Newton rides with us when he's home, as do Sid Barras and Paul Curran occasionally. Stuart Morris too (Former British Madison Champ with Curran and World Masters Pursuit champ)."A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"

I see the" Boot" quite often. For those of you who do not know that nick name .I am refering to Ray Booty the first man to crack 4 hrs for the 100.bagpuss0

I once saw a load of people in the team GB kit out on the road - one of them was definately Chris Hoy although I was going too fast to see who else was there. They weren't even going fast! I was well disappointed!
I also saw Richard Hammond (from Top Gear) - weird, I thought those car maniacs hated cyclists...?
John Snow too - that news reader on Channel 4. I zoomed right past him!0 -
Saw Nicole at Afan on her mountain bike. She had a puncture but refused a tube.0

He commutes on his bike apparently, top gear did a feature on crossing London and he was on his bike (some flat barred fairly expensive Spesh jobby iirc), and beat the car & boat he was racing.0 -
Not sure this counts, but many years ago whilst mountain biking in Epiing Forest, I saw Rachel Hunter riding her horse. Genuinely one of the most b*ll*ck - achingly attractive women I have ever seen in the flesh.
The next time I reacted like that to a woman wasn't for another 5 years or so: I ended up marrying her."There are holes in the sky,

Not entirely true. Hammond is pretty keen on his bike (see other comment about the car vs bike vs boat race on TG) and is on record as saying he finds it quicker for getting around town than a car! James May is a huge fan of his Brompton, as much for the ingenuity of the design as for a means of getting about. But as far as I know, Jeremy "Toad of Toad Hall" Clarkson genuinely hates bikes. No surprise there.

Despite being one of the younger generations of BikeRadar posters (early thirties), I still appreciate the significance of Booty's achievement (though there were other strings to his bow - I believe he was an Empire Games road-race gold medallist in the 50s). Glad to hear he's still out and about on the bike!

Bit off-topic, sorry, but:DavidBelcher wrote:younger generations of BikeRadar posters (early thirties),
So am I considered really young then? I'm 21. Just out of interest, how old are people on here generally?0 -
Chris Boardman used to be a regular sight around here, often would see him pacing up the cutting in Thurstaston towards Heswall, for a non-climber, he doesn't hang about. I also regularly see his dad (Keith) at the Eureka Cyclist's cafe. I also see Steve Cummings when he isn't swanning across Europe competing. Just the other week I saw Dave Lloyd (smiling through gritted teeth as usual) riding near Neston on the Wirral.0

I also encountered Alexei Sayle on an old 'sit-up-and-beg' roadster in Russell Sq. some years ago. I thought I showed extremely good taste in resisting the urge to say,
"Allo, Alexei, got a new bike?I'm gonna live for ever. . .or die trying!!0 -

So many of the youngsters on here won't get that0 -
I saw Josie Dew (the travel writer) once. She looked cute.
And...the one time I was at the Manchester Velodrome for a taster session I was able to sneak an upside down look at the names of 'staff' who were there. I saw that Victoria Pendleton had 'ticked' herself in about 20 minutes before but I didn't see her at all. And I was definitely trying to see her!0 -
I met Poofessor Robert Winston in Regents park in September and he is an orrible snotty preek. Of course being that cluelessly clever absolves him of any blame. His cream trousers with accident stains on his crack, mud, made me laugh. He was dressed to the nines but I'd only give him a turd of that out of ten.0

I still think the Top Gear producers missed a trick with the bike vs boat vs public transport feature. They should've put Clarkson on the bike and stuck a target on his back.0

I saw Josie Lawrence once, and remember being struck by how attractive she was - something that had never really come across on the TV.
However, it was at Stratford theatre and she wasn't on a bike. Do I win £10?It doesn't get any easier, but I don't appear to be getting any faster.0 -

Not on my bike, but I popped into Paul Hewitt cycles on Wednesday to pick up some spokes and Bradley Wiggins was there with his toddler - got him to sign my Heros and Villains book which I happened to have in the car - didn't say "thanks Chris" tho!Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Was just riding along the Wirral Way on my winter bike (wet here in the Wirral today) after a few miles in Wales. Just as I was nearing Heswall a jogger comes the other way, smiles and says 'hiya', only realised a few yards later that it was Chris Boardman. So that's 2 things I learned today, 1 is that Chris must have moved further South in Wirral and 2 is that Chris jogs Wished I'd had my wits about me as I would have given more of a cheery hello!0

I saw Sir Paul McCartney in Robert Dias a few years back. He was married to Heather Mills at the time and I speculated (rather too loudly, according to the wife) whether he was getting a new rubber last for Heather's leg.... :oops:Head Hands Heart Lungs Legs0
