160kbps OGG Vorbis - no idea about steamrip.

In answer to the question about LastFM and Spotify the man differences are that Spotify has a much bigger catalogue but has no social networking side to it.

LastFM is primarliy a muisc scrobbling (records what you listen to) and social networking site. If you use it enough your LastFM personal radio is amazing, a radio station with no ads tailored to your taste.

IMO the Spotify radio is rubbish and not a patch on LastFM's or Napsters.

What I am waiting for is for when the day comes that LastFM has access to the same record labels as Spotify (been promised for 12 months now), now that will be amazing.

I've been on it for years and although my profile (same name as here) says I have scrobbled nearly 200,000 tracks it is actually nearer 100,000. Still that is a lot of scrobbles and despite the odd Billie track the radio is normally spot on, in fact that is normally all I listen too!!

Yep the ads have definitely increased, and are likely to continue as it becomes more widely used. Annoyingly, there doesn't seem to be any easy way at present to invest in this company... otherwise I'd be filling my boots.

I'll add a Girls Aloud track to cheer Jash up....

Looks good but when it says download and install I suspect that's not going to play ball with Linux :-(

I'm listening to spotify on linux at this very moment, works perfectly via wine.

edit: i see that this has been mentioned more than once already. So how many other people are IT consultants?

I suppose if you use it that much a tenner a month is not that bad. Has anyone got an invite for this? I would like to try it out.

You don't need an invite anymore. Or are we not talking about Spotify? (I may be confused :) )

    Hi Matt,

If I go to www.spotify.com it says you need an invite for the free version. Is there anything I am missing?

    Thanks

There's a storm outside, and the gap between crack and thunder
Crack and thunder, is closing in, is closing in
The rain floods gutters, and makes a great sound on the concrete
On a flat roof, there's a boy leaning against the wall of rain
