We could run a new version of Pro Tour Pundit!
Is there, by any chance a sudden judicial clamour to get Valverde? I'm sure he is tranquilo."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I bet its 4 cyclists??
Would love it to be some other sport just for a change. But I think there would be more chance of LA getting him bike than that.0 -
Frank (Amigo di Birillo), Bettini (Luigi), Cancellara and an other Saxo bank riderIt's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0

Where is that news from ? Would explain Cancellara being able to win the prologue, even though he was in the throes of being sick...0

Who have we got that were definitely OP linked and have worn the yellow jeresey?
Well, here are my bookies odds:-
Even money: Frankie Schleck
5/2: Dertie Bertie C
3/1: Spartacus
Have I missed out anyone?"Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

I remember the name Nicki on an invoice faxed to a hotel in Spain to Tyler's then wife by Fuentes in same town as tyler lived in...he was on CSC with Niki Sorensen...so let's see. Tyler did the 02 Giro...will they go back that far?0 -
Apparently the direct quote is "a central star that has dressed in yellow at the Tour" with some people speculating it means a central European runner (as in runners and riders), which of course Luxembourg would fit into.
Of course there's another Luxembourg rider, who was heavily speculated about at the tail end of 2008, that wore yellow in last year's TdF too.
One question, presumably these four names would all be riders who at some point in 2008 were tested in Italy (to get the DNA to compare against the blood bags), so thus got tested at the TdF or Giro?0 -
From new cyclingnews
Ethics are without frontiers. One can't be guilty in Italy and innocent in Switzerland. This is the consequence of an extreme situation and may be used to reach our objectives: cycling needs transparency," Zomegnan said to La Gazzetta dello SportFckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
And the Giro's so transparent that they refuse to test for CERA - is transparency the new opacity?0

Since when is Luxembourg in Central Europe?
Quite a lot of France (a "western" european country) is to the east of Luxembourg.0 -
That quote would fit with a Swiss rider better. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0

The samples are also from the Giro and the Worlds so that widens the net considerably.0

What i can't understand is why ithios has taken so long and why it's down to the Italians to sort it out.
Puerto broke in July 2006...Valverde's supposed sample has been in the hands of the authorities for ages.....I suppose the Spanish federation has their own sample...What i really don't understand is why in over two years the Spanish have never ever considered looking at one of the many samples Valverde must have given in Spanish races since then - he rides rather a lot of them - and compared the DNA with the famous 'valve/Piti sample..
Surely that can't be hard to do now can it? But in the end its the Italians who have made the effort...
Why didn't the Spanish Federation at least make an effort? hmmmmmm
answers on a postcard please
PS and lets be honest Puerto contains more than just cyclists - Fuentes was doctor for the 1984 Spanish Athletics team at the LA Olympics...0 -

That was the one thing puzzling me this morning. Superb that CONI have gone for the jugular on Puerto, but what about CERA?
I assume they did all the testing at the Giro as it was a non-UCI event, so as such they'd have custody of all the samples?
Unless of course they've run the tests and those taking it at the Giro were caught by the AFLD (Piepoli, Ricco) and the UCI (Sella). Kohl, Schumacher and Beltran didn't take part in the Giro. But that would lead to the conclusion that they don't want to re-write the record books ... confusing signals.0 -

Quite agree, as I'd normally say Western Europe but that's how I read it on another site, but all depends on your definition of Central Europe I suppose really! After all it's more 'central' than Spain or Bulgaria for example. Agree though it does fit Switzerland better, then again you can just about make any of these rumours fit anyone with a bit of work, e.g. below.
If we're talking of supposedly dodgy Luxembourg riders, there's another who alot of rumours were about last year, who also may have been an amigo of Basso's, while riding for a cement backed Italian team, and who also has worn yellow in the Tour.
Puerto's dragged on for so long, I'm still deeply sceptical of the Italian's actually pinning anything (that sticks) to anyone.0 -

Nope. The UCI did the testing at the Giro.
CONI have a habit of turning up and testing riders. The reason they can get access is because they're a government agency. The Italian fed and the UCI are not.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
Switzerland is considered to be a central European state...0

If it does come out that it was Frank from Luxembourg & Fabian from Switzerland. Would there be enough evidence by association to implicate Riis?
Would be good if they could kick him out of the sport for good. But I can see him just shrugging his shoulders and getting another couple of ponies to train.0 -

Does anyone really believe that Basso could blood dope without Riis knowing?

Implicate Mr 60%?..so what?
Make a list of ex-Bruyneel dopers, it's a lot longer than Riis' list. Pro cycling is so integritous.
Here, Bjarne is admiring a nice glass of Spanish AB-ve:

Riis was having his riders coached by Cecchini and allegedly Cecchini was then passing on certain elements of these "training plans" to Fuentes. In other words, it was entirely organised.0

The rumour was that big name Spanish football teams were involved, and the Spanish authorities appear to have been sitting on the evidence ever since.
The officicial explanation was that as doping was not a criminal offence in Spain in 2006, no criminal charges could be brought against the athletes involved, although it was mooted that Fuentes would face charges on grounds of breaching medical practice.
Until Puerto is finally resolved and all those implicated get their comeuppance, it will keep rearing it's head at irregular intervals like a festering boil on the face of cycling (among other sports).0 -

That sounds like a lark:
Riis
Teammates: Ullrich, Zabel, Aldag, Holm, Dietz, Bolts, Henn
Managed: Hamburger, Bartoli (Sansone), Hamilton, Basso
Bruyneel:
Teammates: Zulle,
Managed: Hamilton, Landis, Heras, Beltran

Well it would be good start to toppling the cycling mafia if they both got banned from cycling. But is there a path from Bruyneel to Fuentes?0 -
What makes you think Fuentes has the monoply on blood doping cyclists?
Why does there need to be a link?
There must be plenty of doctors / chemists off radar0 -
Well there is a link where Riis is concerned, Basso and then a trip to Madrid with Frank Shleck to get his training plans from Fuentes.
And the link will may be go some way to getting rid of some of the DS's and not just the riders.
No doubt there are more doctors and chemists, but without evidence and the wall of silence within cycling they are really touched.
We are punishing the riders which is good but the hierarchy always seen to get away with it.0 -
I think the italians should play this out slowly and get some pay back
If you are innocent then u have nothing to fear. Keep droping hints and pretend you have more info than u do and watch the rats scurry all over the place - Mess with their heads these lads will have a good healthy dip in form when they get preoccupied. Then put out the word that there will be arrests and see who turns up to Milan San Remo !0
