    The viner would be this:

    Italian, good-looking and very fast...

Mmm but with off road tires!

Psssst. I think she's bumped her head this afternoon. She's not thinking straight. I bet those "beautiful eyes" that PRJ45 spoke of in his account of the Massacre at Chiswick Roundabout are looking at each other right now... :D:D:D

    Oi! Damn it how rude.

Mind you, I still can't really work out quite what blondie's on about... he's not as fast as a murcielago...

    Or maybe:

    ariel_atom_3.jpg

Lightweight with an exceptional power-to-weight ratio (one that shames the Enzo in the 300bhp, 500kg, £30,000 model)

Personally I'd much rather have the Atom then a Lambo, not least because I could get 5 or 10 for the cost of one of those poncey Italian cars. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't say no to a Lambo, Pagani or Koneningiasjdasjhfopapusahseg (or however it's bl00dy spelt) But to put it in context I like the idea of a car that only a petrol head would appreciate, much like an expensive bike (say the Viner) only a proper bike nut would appreciate it as they aren't widely known. I've only seen 2 of these cars on the road (one of them keeping up with a Ferrari on the M3), compared to the dozens of Lambo's and Ferrari's I've spotted whilst in and around London. The man with a red Ferrari F430 has about as much imagination as I have in the end of my little finger.........

I'm by no means a petrolhead but when I saw the Atom on Top Gear ages ago - I WANT ONE! I've seen one being driven round Liverpool every now and then. It looks ace.
  • Yes the Top Gear piece (5th gear did one to, check Youtube) is what made me fall head over heels for that car! The way it destroys JC's face was comical! It's also such a "pure" driving experience with none of the electric trickery to make you look good - the only traction control is the strips of rubber around the alloy wheels :-D

I used to pass a parked up Atom in Camden quite regularly in a morning, not seen it for a while but figure it might reappear once the weather gets better. Ridiculously wide track, it uesd to stick out a good foot more than normal cars. Bit of a fish out of water on the M3 tho', there are plenty of £20k-ish cars that would easily have the legs of an Atom on the motorway.

I bet they don't contort your face like the Atom does though.

    £20k-ish cars, vs. a go-kart for grown-ups

But none look as outlandish as the Atom :-) I want a car that can turn heads! A Morgan Aero 8 or a Catherham Super 7 would also be in my dream garage to give you a sneak peak inside my odd tastes ;-) That is all assuming I a) win the lottery and b) stop riding all the expensive bikes that I'd also buy :-D

I had a ride in one of these last year

    ultima_1.jpg

It broke the lap record around the Top Gear track i.e faster than the Koenigsegg by over 40s but even though it is street legal Top Gear wont put it on the show. Boo!

It also holds the world record for a road legal car for 0-100-0 of roughly 9.8s. I have been in some fast cars but nothing prepares you for this.

A friend of mine has an Atom, it is an awesome piece of kit, like a really, really fast go-kart! They and the caterhams are great fun but not overly practical... but what does that matter?! A westfield XTR is probably one for the list too...

I have to say, I love the TVR, and I'll miss it when it's gone. Much as the Lambo would be top of the list if I won the lottery, I'd seriously consider buying 3 TVRs for the same price. In fact, for the cost of the Lambo, you could probably buy the shattered remains of TVR itself... :(

Which TVR do you have? The old man has a Griff 500 which is great fun to drive in a oh god I am going to die sort of way.

Possibly because it looks like a back-side, smacked very very hard by someone with big, strong hands??
  • You have a TVR? I'm beginning to think I married the wrong women ;-)
TVR's are lovely, until the sale it was a proper nice British brand with an engine note to die for! Top that off with the flip-colour paint jobs and lovely body work - a convertible Tuscan S in purple/green/gold would turn my legs to jelly and put a grin on my face!

Certainly functional rather than pretty. It is just so fast though, it makes TVR's feel sluggish.
