I don't know whether this has been posted before:

It seems that even the great Lance is not immune from idiot drivers. Some of the comments at the end of the article are really worth a look at too. It would appear that the sport of cycling is held in lower regard than WWF (World Wildlife Fund?? ) in the States

Really is scary to see how nasty some Americans are.
I think they're even worse than the idiots who bother to write into the Daily Mail.

This is awsome I had to re read the comments, They are classic.

One thing you have to say about Americans they shure do know how to put across a valid point =... My personal favorite
I am so sick of cycling. Every sport has a place for it but cycling, Nscar has a track, football an Arena, simming a pool, Etc. Cycling asks to share the road, and not only that some of the worse roads around with no shoulder what so ever. give me a break, its the dumbest thing on wheels. I would never be so arrogant as to ride down the middle of the road with my Ass in the Air daring people to hit me, that is as dumb as you get. If these Yah Yahshave money and brains then create a path were roads have a large bike lane and pay to have bike lanes put in where they dont, if thats where you have to ride. Otherwise stay off the road or you will get run over. Even a Sheriff fell asleep at the wheel and killed a couple of cyclist, What do you people need to get the point. ITS NOT COOL AND ITS NOT SAFE.

Do you think he meant slimming??

    No shoulder what so ever...

The best bit he tries to justify cyclists not being on the road becasue 'even a sherriff fell asleep at the wheel and killed a couple" - Good god man a sheriff you say well better go out and mow a few of the bleeders down myself if the law man is in on it!

Bless them (can anyone hear a Banjo)

Create a [route] where roads have a large bike lane and pay to have bike lanes put in where they don't if that's where you have to ride. Otherwise stay off the road or you will get run over.

Ah I think most countries have their fair share of ignorance. Then again, whilst Lance is a hero of mine, sometimes he comes accross as a bit... touchy?

    This bit was my favourite:

"Every sport has a place for it but cycling"

which part of "road race" do they not understand?

How do the last few paragraphs at the foot about Lance's attitude to the reporter read ?
Unless he was wearing a badge marked 'press' as well as his baseball cap, presumably Lance just thought he was a fan...

"If you have a party of more than some-odd people, you have to tell the County and make arrangements so that the rest of the citizenry isn't put out by surprise."

My personal favourite! Citizenry? Is that even a word??

Mexico last year - the guy was drunk and asleep, wandered over the centreline and ploughed head-on into a bike race coming the other way, killed a rider, injured a dozen

Depends if your club runs consist of more than "some-odd" people.

but wouldn't it be better to wait until Obama has solved their economic problems - otherwise Gordon Brown (in his role as saviour of the World) will start underwriting the whole of the American economy. In doing that he will surely take the little bit of my money that he hasn't already taken or rendered worthless :(

I subscribe to the hypothesis that knuckleheadism is pretty much homogenously distributed (ethnically, socially and geographically). In some remote, sparcely populated parts of the USA some people seek to maintain the knucklehead population in spite of the low general population density. They achieve this by becoming overly familiar with close relatives

The "knucklehead/redneck" was probably late for his alien abduction/anal probing appointment.

So unfortunatly we have managed to prove here that Americans have a more extensive vocabulary than Robmanic1 - sorry fella

Better save the invasion till the week after. At this rate the invasion force may be too close to the American Army when their airforce mistakes them for the enemy and saves us a job by bombing there own guys!

  • It's just a sad bunch of comments...
I feel even sadder that my home country, Australia, is going the same way. :(

While I agree that technically speaking Lance is no more important than other road users and that it's polite to pull over if you're a cyclist holding up traffic, the hatred of the entire sport of cycling is simply not warranted. :?

I do feel that with such FUcKW¡Ts about, yes they are slowly but surely winning the battle of our roads... it comes as no suprise that people are ever-closer to their breaking point... I think I'll be staying off the roads when I go back to OZ for 6 weeks this May.

And so long as we're talking about Americans, I feel that they no longer speak 'English'. I wouldn't even call it "American English". At least not while they're all using HORRID, not to mention STUPIDLY INCORRECT, terms such as "my bad".
  • Just happened upon this site and had to respond. Pathetic comments.

The English have bad teeth, are alcoholics, obsessed with the royal family, fight all the time, the women are ugly, coarse, and have big, floppy tits and asses. Of course that would be closeminded and ignorant of me to think that is true of all the UK, but it sure would be accurate based on the media we receive over here.....so maybe Jerry Springer and MTV do not describe all Americans.
