  • Me!

Well, I follow stephen fry and jonathan ross and a blogger called violent acres. Don't do so much of it myself as I can't do it from my phone.

  • yeah I'm using it but I'm still figuring out what its worth is though I am also currently reading Clay Shirky's 'Here Comes Everybody' to give me more of insight into the networking revolution. I worked in music industry for over 12yrs and my company used myspace but to be honest I can say we never actually gained anything from it so not sure what Twitter is going to add. A lot of the people I am still connected to are not using it yet , I use it as Carbonfiend. I follow a few friends and Lance. My understanding of it at the moment is the formation of new social groups without management

    +1

Do you text posts or something? Is this the brainchild of a mobile phone company bod so they could earn more cash?

Twitter is a "micro blog" service where you post short messages - 140 chars max - about what you're doing, questions you have etc. The idea is to "follow" people you find helpful or interesting; doing so means you get to see all their messages. In turn, people who find you helpful, interesting, funny or whatever "follow" you and get to see all your messages. Over time, you build up a list of followers and followees and you get a kind of message stream to read and participate in.

I'm hooked up to some friends, businesses, and fellow developers and web designers, for example. There are also a few famous types on there like Stephen Fry, Jonathan Ross, that Brand fella, Dave Gorman, Kryten from Red Dwarf, who you are free to "follow" or send messages to.

This is a list of all my messages:

This is a list of EVERYONE's messages:

    Helps?

gert, that'd be pretty close, only it's not just limited to "status" topics but can be anything and there are features for person to person chats and private messages (albeit somewhat limited by the 140 character message length).

But no sheep throwing or other Facebook style crap, just the conversations.

BTW, you may know this guy:

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

Basic idea of what it is.

  • i find this whole thing rather overrated. just another way for people to stalk at other people or help people feel good about themselve because they have so called "followers" and think they are actually interesting.

i can see it will help in a way for famous people to use this a a marketing tool , apart from that this is just another social networking sites but has less features compare to other.

I don't think you can say it's overrated - it's a new fun fad which may well disappear in 6 months time. I don't actually think it will, partly because of the Stephen Fry effect - getting a Twitter from him gives the strongest feeling you're actually mates! A powerful draw indeed.

Obviously if LiT posted on Twitter rather than just reading it she'd easily surpass Mr Fry's 163,000 followers.

But I did post on twitter! Only yesterday I said 'bicycle bicycle bicycle' to see if my phone was playing ball....

Where are my 163,000 followers? Hmmmmm?
