    Hmmmm.

£45 for the Cycling Plus sportive on the 31st May, or

£10 for the Pontycyslte Aquaduct Challenge on 30th May?

I know which event I would prefer to enter, and it is not the expensive one!

    http://www.cyclosport.org/eventdetails. ... entid=2251

In C+ defence, I think we're talking about two different scale events here aren't we?
scale shouldn't really come into it, most of us want to ride a route, the sportive has been priced at £45, and you get the extras thrown in,wether you want them or not thats the bit that sticks. If you just want to ride the sportive, then the comparison between the 2 events is fair, but at this rate they won't get many taking up the challenge.
i'll ride anything, but I prefer carbon.......... she screamed!!

There any reason why their can't be a sportive only price?

Not paying 45 quid to ride on some public roads, ta very much.
  • Just seen this ride on the front page of BR. Just up the road for me AND I have no family commitments that weekend. Yippee.

Then I scrolled down the details until...
"Entry costs £45 per person and tickets are now on sale"

    HOW MUCH???!!

Er no thanks. Sorry , this mug is not THAT much of a mug.
2 minute grovels can sometimes be a lot longer..tho' shorter on a lighter bike :-)

But what about the details of what you get for doing the sportive compared to the enduro riders? Shouldn't this be equal?

I have to say I did think £45 was taking the michael somewhat but that offer is good and me and the better half have signed up. Looks pretty good really, we'll take roadies and MTBs, do the serious riding thing on Saturday, then go and get lashed on Sat night and go MTBing Sunday.

Slightly off topic, but as this is the first sportif we'll have done, anything I need to know in terms of etiquette, what to expect etc? Normally ride 25-30 miles so this will be a bit of a step up (going for the 60 miler), and keen not to get in people's way if they are taking it seriously.

    £45 is a bit steep.

Yep, weekend entry eases the charge a little - but not if you want to enter another event, as this will be full price.

Edited to say: I think I should read the whole thread before posting - Doh!

This seems a little unfair don't you think? An awful lot for the mountain bike riders but little for the roadies. Or have I got this wrong and this is for all the riders?

I think you have got this wrong/we need to update the page for the sportive.

I'm a local rider as well, but £45 means that I will not do it.

    Frenchie

Is that France-on-Trent where you live?

I guess it'll be mostly locals who don't want to camp who'll take advantage of the early bird discount

I've managed to talk one clubmate into it - as he's new to cycling I'd either be on my own or riding at his pace - if it was a more reasonable (though not exactly cheap) £25 full stop I would just enter in the knowledge that I could talk at least 3-4 others into riding it closer to the date. Such a shame it's the only really local sportive and the price is putting people off. Early bird offers are great but so many people don't want to decide months in advance.

Most people would ride and go home after anyway - by the time you finish you aren't really going to have time or inclination to take advantage of the bike show.

Edit - entered - managed to talk a few more into it. So when's the route published ?

Any chance of extending the deadline for the sportive reduction - I know a couple of people from the Derby Mercury claim they tried to get in late on but couldn't register - no idea if the problem was at their end or not.

I'm in OK but if you aren't up to the 500 yet just wondered if you'd consider being flexible for the others ?

Thanks Mark - usual story - once a couple of us committed to doing it others started to come on board but it was late in the day and some have left it a bit too late.

Ditto here, Tom. I'm in, but a friend missed the 5pm deadline and is put off by the extra £20
