Hi all,
I have this strange thing that happens in my legs and Im trying to find out what it is. It seems pretty rare, most people think im talking about cramps, but its not cramps. I've seen a few other posts on the web from people who have had the same thing, but no real progress on what it is.
basically, the typical situation is: i've taken a few days off the bike, everythings fine, i go to walk down some stairs, or get back on the bike, and within a few seconds, BAM, this sudden, severe, sharp, burning type pain starts in one of my thighs. the pain is usually localized to a small area in one thigh, but not the same area each time. once it starts, it typically spreads really quickly to other areas in the thigh, and usually then to both thighs. if i stand still the pain goes, but if i try to keep moving, the pain quickly spirals out of control. often if i wait and dont move for a while (maybe between 5-15 minutes) i can use the legs again, but they're stiff and sore, and are then sort of 'sensitized' for a few days (i.e. the sudden pain is really easily triggered again). it's not a cramp. i've had plenty of those and its really different. i.e. the thigh muscles don't involuntarily contract, theyre not hard or tight, the pain isnt there if i dont move, and the pain doesnt go if i stretch the muscle out. its more like a searing, nerve damage or cutaneous type pain.
im pretty sure its not something like a disease induced neuropathy as i dont have diabetes or MS or anything. i have had a few lumbar disc operations (microdiscectomies) so i guess it coul be nerve damage from my back.
anyway, has anyone else had this, and does anyone know wat it is and how to treat or mange it?
cheers.

Sounds like nerve pain associated with your previous back history. Perhaps try an osteopath? My Ride Stumpjumper Expert 20080
