Need some advice,
Brought a Mail order bike because i liked the frame with the view to upgrading all the crappy stock parts. So far i have put a new headset, stem, handlebar, seat post, seat, bottom bracket, crank set & rear derailur.
At present i have got pretty much bog standard dual-control shifters and as with the rest of the bike, i would like to upgrade them. The only problem being that my bike is a 7 speed while all the decent d-control shifters are 9 speed. Is it possible for me to still use these shifters or does it have to be specific to a 7 speed cassette & can anyone recommend one to me.

9spd will not work. the spacings/cable pull is different.
8spd has the same spacing and you can just not use one click.
But more info on make model etc required."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

New bikes with 7-speed cassettes were sold from 1989 to 1993 during the 7-speed era. Nowadays, only cheap bikes have 7 speeds and these are fitted with freewheels not cassettes.
Converting to 9-speed makes a lot of sense.0
