I've got the Schwalbe Stelvio Plus myself, about the same as the Schwalbe marathon Plus? Annoyingly what with the cost of them I've just had in the last 2 weeks to bin 2 tyres because of holes in the non-rekevlar reinforced sidewall, one blew out and the other was about to.

Most annoying punctures I've had in the past few months: pump up the tyre, carefully take the pump off, then an hour hour later having the tyre blow because I just wasn't careful enough with the pump and the valve has ripped off!

That, and tyres blowing off because they weren't seated 100% properly are the main cause of my flats lately....I think in the past few months I've had maybe 3 flats from punctures and perhaps 6 from such "other causes"

For changing tyres in the dark, recommend getting a light you can mount on your helmet, like a Petzl head torch, just wrap it around the inside of your helmet to mount.
'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....
  • I don't like those continental Gator Skin tyres at all. Cycled LEJOG this summer, and one of the guys I was riding with punctured with them 4 times. I road with the crappy Kenda tyres that came on the bike, and guess what? Not a single puncture, dispite the wind and rain blowing debris all over the roads.

Since then, I have got some Hutchison Equinox tyres, done a good 600 miles without a puncture.

Have you played around with pressure? I have about 110 in my tyres all the time, and I don't often puncture.

After 18 months with a new bike and no punctures, I went through a spell last autumn of getting a puncture every time I went out. Even just 2ks to supermarket and back - puncture. Every time for about 6 weeks, a puncture every time I looked at the bike, including some really annoying slow ones that I did not notice until all dolled up ready to get the bike out of the cupboard and see the back wheel down again.

These were all in the back tyre. I figure I am doing something wrong - go to LBS to see if there is something wrong with the wheel. Nothing, but they sell me a Schwalbe marathon for the back wheel (I only have the wheel with me). Next ride - first ever puncture in the front.

lol, sorry but I had to laugh. I'm sooooo hacked off with the eweather stopping me from getting on the bike now that I'd forgotten about punctures. Moan, moan moan, moan :D:D:D

Are the Marathons THE thing to have then???

Well I dont want a jinx, and I have only done about 150-200 miles in them (now front and back) but I know people who swear by them / similar products e.g. 18 months, 30 miles a day commuting without a punc.
