I would like your views on training DVDs for use whilst on the turbo. They all seem to be around the £20 mark and before I potentially waste money on rubbish, I would like your considered reviews in the Film 2009 vein. Pretty new to turbo training so bear that in mind. Thanks.

Hey CS, not being helpful really, just wanted to say that I was thinking exactly the same thing.

My TT should be arriving tomorrow, so any info people have to share on titles would be brilliant, and much appreciated by myself also.

Have you tried a search by the way CS, might bring up some previous posts.

Tried searching, with dubious results. Nothing that I am looking for yet anyway! Hence my question.
  • I'm not a racer, only a sportif rider doing Etapes and Marmottes but can thoroughly recommend the Chris Carmicheal training DVDs (Carmicheal Train Right). I believe they've really helped my lactate threshold and power. It makes you feel you've done a much structured turbo session which keeps you motivated. The variation and the claim Carmicheal makes that he has Lance doing these same sessions make you feel less of an aimless hamster....

I have Climbing 2, Cycling for Power and Cycling for Cadence. I borrowed some Spinervals DVDs as well which were okay but I felt the Carmicheal ones were more targeted to improving cycling performance (and not quite such irritating presenter and music).

I've ripped them all onto my ipod touch so that I can use them on any gym turbo as well when travelling on business. After a while you get used to them and can read a magazine in the rest periods and just wait for Carmichael's prompts.

I see they offer downloads now which are cheaper than the DVDs but don't know how the content compares. If anyone has tried the downloads I'd be curious to know how they are.
  • Cheers Coulcher, thanks for the recommendations. I will check them out. Best regards, CrabStiX

Excellent... I think I'll give the 'Jesus' cast a miss though!
  • I've got a ChaseK DVD that I bought via ebay.

As the film goes along it gives you a number to set the resistance on your trainer to. It is desugned for Tacx flow but gives comparisons versus other trainers on the ChaseK website.

I use it regurlarly and the hilly changes make for a less boring session (with nice views around cape town). I have the Argus one which runs for 1hr 45mins and makes it not boring.

Coulcher, great idea to rip to the ipod. I tarvel with work and try to find a gym with a bike but it always boring.
  • I have just bought myself a tacx satori pro turbo trainer and got the Carmichael Train Right:- Race Simulation dvd thrown in and completed the workout yesterday for the first time. Was quite impressed the hour session flew by and would rate this dvd to anyone.
nothing is ever impossible! your body will always adapt to what is ever thrown at it! always believe in your own abilities!

Thanks for the recommendation on the Carmichael discs. I've just started using Training for Cycling and it's one of the best one hour workouts I've done. Covers off all the base areas, sprint, maximum effort, changes of pace, climb simulation etc.

    Nice one. :D

the sufferfest are great and I'm really into ergvideo but you need a computrainer for the latter.
